xpat request

Ciao BNR,

recently one of my NSP dropped support for XPAT, so i'd like to ask
if it's possible to add an option (maybe in the "Commands" tab of the
server properties) whether or not that particular server is allowed
to issue an XPAT command or not.
An option like "this server allows XPAT" or something like that.
The purpose is to avoid from getting stuck with a 501 error.
Hope this could be useful to others
  Thanks

Jeff, servers won't start, continued

The problem was that none of the multiple servers would auto-start
downloading articles until I painstakingly added them as a TARGET in
the queue window.

They are all set up to connect on demand.
There are no priorities anywhere.
They all have either genuine articles or "forced" article in newsgroups.
They used to auto-respond but now don't
I have been using BNR2/3 for more than a year.

Please suggest some remedial measures.

Thank you

Dave

There is some reason that BNR thought that it shouldn't connect
those prior to setting the target to those servers. Did you check
to make sure those servers had an entry in the ArticleIDs column in
the queue? Was there also an entry for some other higher priority
server?

For me, whenever I find articles sitting in the queue that haven't
downloaded it is due to one of the following reasons.
1) The HD is too full. [The articles appear in blue and BNR uses a
lot of CPU cycle constantly checking to see if any space has become
available.]
2) The server downloading that article dropped the connection and
reconnected, but somehow failed to remove itself as the handler of
an article [The article appears in red with the connection that was
handling it still listed in the Handler column. Viewing the queue
while that connection is disconnected should reset the handler and
allow it to download. Restarting BNR will definitely clear the
handler.]
3) The queue has lost the ArticleID references for all server-group
pairs. [The ArticleIDs column is empty, probably because it tried
and the server returned No Such Article. One server that I use will
do this sporatically on older articles during the last day or so
before they expire. Selecting those articles in the Message List
page and pressing M to mark them for download again even though they

Thanks for your time Jeff, I found the problem. A server I don't use
had a priority set and as soon as I put it back to 0 the other servers
sprang into action. You did tell me this but I didn't check this
server, sorry.
Thanks again
Dave

another strange hang

This product continues to have some odd behavior, but not as
much as before due to Jeff's good work.

Saying that, experienced this today. What's it wating for?
there's nothing else accessing it. All I was trying to do was refresh
a group.

The Connection Manager thread probably has the DB lock checking to
see if it needs to connect any other server or any other connections
to that same server to do something.

The main thread also uses the locks for refreshing some of the
screens such as the Queue and Message List tabs, but I don't think
that would come into play while viewing the Servers tab.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I left it for about 20 minutes
but ended up cancelling it. Initially, it seemed to be doing I/O
according to XP's Task Manager, but I had no confidence it was ever
going to respond - database was small < 100MB. 20 minutes seemed like
it was long enough.
Restarted using the same DB and it appears OK.

Thanks

I'd just like to say "thanks" for BNR. I'm using V3, and for me it works
perfectly. No problems at all :)

Thought it would make a change from all the people needing tech support.

Regards,
Paul

Re: Thanks

Yes BNR2 plus .nzb files is the perfect combination
for me. I download more than I can handle now.

Thanks Jeff for supporting BNReaper and helping us get
the most out of the prog.

Attn Jeff: Date/Time Anomalies

Hi Jeff:

Can you explain why BNR2/3 interprets the following header's date as 03/09/05 04:27:36? (My system's time
zone is set to GMT-5 hours):

NNTP-Posting-Date: Wed, 09 Mar 2005 09:27:36 -0600
From: ladeda <at> ladeda.la (ladeda)
Sender: ladeda <at> ladeda.la
Newsgroups: alt.binaries.multimedia
Subject: L&O sctv [01/35] - "lao.svu.618.hdtv-lol.[BT].par2" yEnc (1/1)
X-Newsposter: YENC-POWER-POST Build 3 (Modified POWER-POST www.CosmicWolf.com)
X-No-Archive: yes
Message-ID: <w4ednbt__dV1iLLfRVn-qA <at> giganews.com>
Date: Wed, 09 Mar 2005 09:27:36 -0600
Lines: 213

Could it be because of the posting software used and/or it uses "-0600" for the GMT offset?

So there's no confusion on the date/time of this post here it is in GMT:

03/09/05 15:27:36
