Re: Re: Next release

Hi Jeff,

Actually, the XHDR refresh doesn't seem to work at all for me now. I tried it
just now and it does the XHDR Message-IDs, but then nothing else. New articles
are shown but when you open up a newsgroup and actually look, there are none.

Paul

Hmmm... BNR miscalculates the size of about half the articles I get,
although I use XOVER on the first server I get headers from. It doesn't
seem to be a XHDR-specific problem (anymore).

That is probably due to the poster not stating that the article is
yEncoded in the subject, so BNR assumes the article is UUEncoded and
calculates a too small size based on the number of lines.

I was thinking that when using XOVER it might be a good idea to check
both the Lines and Bytes headers, and determine from those whether
the article is actually yEncoded. If the average line length is
around 60, the article is UUEncoded, if it is around 128, the article
is yEncoded.

Just an idea for Jeff to implement if he feels like it. :-)

That is precisely the bug that was supposed to have been fixed in 0.14.3.

About the connection stalling... I don't know what the problem you write
of is, but I have a problem on the dynamic IP computer, with threads
freezing on "Selecting new newsgroup..."

It happens usually when my ISP forcibly disconnects me from the Net and
when I connect back, I have a different public IP. Then the connections
that were retrying are connecting, getting to "Selecing new
newsgroup..." stage and then doing nothing. No server answer (it doesn't
show on the Servers page anyway), no connection timeout, no nothing. It
happens on both of my servers, which are very different services (one
public free in Poland, the other Octanews).

If I manually force them to disconnect then, and connect again, they
start downloading as if nothing happened.

This is in 0.14.4.

That is the connection stalling problem that I'm talking about.

I'm on 14.4.445 and it doesn't seem to be working with Claranet and NTL. I
think the original poster was talking about the long standing bug where using
XHDR causes all articles to be reported as size 0.
