RE: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

Just thought Id add my 2c into this previous thread.

Until about 3 weeks ago we had been on a Jetstart connection which had
been rock solid for ... ohhh 2+years.

Since going to these new Jetstream Surf plans its been "OK", but Im
pretty sure we are also seeing what Paul referred to below.

Have contacted World-Net, but thought Id see if anyone has any ideas
here as well.

Here is a traceroute from when we are online and all running OK:

[craig <at> mail craig]$ /usr/sbin/traceroute 219.88.230.8 traceroute to
219.88.230.8 (219.88.230.8), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
 1 m1122.infobahnz.local (10.0.0.1) 1.474 ms 1.395 ms 2.716 ms
 2 210-55-64-64.adsl.netgate.net.nz (210.55.64.64) 45.581 ms 46.547

 5 worldnet-dom.akcr5.global-gateway.net.nz (202.37.245.50) 57.200 ms

ms
 7 iiweb01 (219.88.230.8) 62.626 ms 63.170 ms 56.797 ms

Whe we go offline for "a few minutes", we don't lose our IP Address and
the M1122 says the PPP Connection is OK. But a traceroute shows:

[craig <at> mail craig]$ /usr/sbin/traceroute 219.88.230.8 traceroute to

ATM 25 mbps connection

I wish to know that how does a service provider gives a 25 mbps atm
connection. Can he bring it through a DSL line as the maximun limit for a
ADSL line is 8096/800 kbps. I think he can't cross that limit. So does he
have to provide it on a different DSL technology. If yes, what is that? In
case it can't be offered on DSL then how does one provision a 25 mbps atm
connection.

Regards
P Saurabh

Re: ATM 25 mbps connection

I dont believe 25Mbps is offered here.

We support only E3 (34Mbps) and OC3 (155Mbps) ATM Tails..

I was having the same problems too. My ISP temporarily put me on a static IP
and the micro-outages of the internet disappeared. My DSL line and PPP
interface have been rock solid .. it looks more a problem with the coe
Telecom IP network.

My firewall still receives lots of probes from other DSL users in the
219.88.x.x range when my internet breaks after 210.55.64.64. I presume this
box is a big beasty PPP concentrator like an Juniper ERX or similar.

According to World-Net, appears my problem may be the opposite, in that
they say there are some problems with Jetstream connections **with**
fixed IP's (funny ... I thought fixed IP's weren't allowed now for Surf
Connections :-) )

Re: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

I must say that ever since I moved *up* to the 256k surf plan I've been
having problems accessing sites I used to have no issues with.

I was previously in a Jetstream starter plan with Ihug but ever since
I've been unable to access a site that I look after www.userlocal.com
I can reach this fine from many other machines on different networks and
even one that is on Jetstream full rate.

I can ping it fine but http (well my browser) times out before the page
is even started to load.
It's pretty weird because I can ping it fine.

  ping -n -c4 www.userlocal.com
PING www.userlocal.com (217.8.140.16) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 217.8.140.16: icmp_seq=1 ttl=40 time=507 ms
64 bytes from 217.8.140.16: icmp_seq=2 ttl=40 time=397 ms
64 bytes from 217.8.140.16: icmp_seq=3 ttl=40 time=397 ms
64 bytes from 217.8.140.16: icmp_seq=4 ttl=40 time=434 ms

--- www.userlocal.com ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 2999ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 397.454/434.216/507.445/44.877 ms

I'd be interested to know if anyone else on the same Ihug/256k Surf plan
is able to browse this site.

Traceroute below.

traceroute -n www.userlocal.com
traceroute to www.userlocal.com (217.8.140.16), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

Re: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

Has anyone had any GOOD experiences with 256k jetsurf? I'm switching
over at the end of my billing cycle in a few days, and I'm beginning to
wonder whether it's a good idea!

RE: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

I switched about 2 weeks ago and I've had no issues. Stable connection, no
outages, excellent speeds.

So here's one happy customer. Xtra btw.

Re: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

Yes.

Remember the usual maxim about the internet - forums are full of people
complaining about shit going wrong, whilst everyone else for whom it's going
right goes about their life as usual - a satisfied customer. Very few go
around boasting that their shit aint broke. And thus are forums horribly
biased. :-]

I've had no problems on mine. Yet. (Xtra 256k 10GB)

Re: 256K Jetsurf and outages.

On the Xtra JetSurf 10 GB plan here and it has been great for me. A couple
of days of higher than normal latency but that was about the only problem...
