It's no different from turning the volume up.  However finding the 
components that do that may be difficult and then there is the problem of 
increased side tone.  May make a noisy environment impossible to talk in..

How is this a technical ADSL issue?

A 2 second search on Google comes up with this

With regards to the off-topic-ness of this thread my comment is that this
one of the most on-topic discussions that this list has had for a while.

It is regarding a technical issue which is related (only) to ADSL. It also
seems to be of direct interest to 5 or so members of the list, myself
included.

Unless there is new technical information, I suggest there is very little

New ADSL pricing

Hi all

Just been on the line with Telecom sorting out various line issues am
currently having .. and at the conclusion got the normal sell/push on
changing to an Xtra/Telecom ADSL plan.

Was told there are new plans coming online from Telecom soon (in assoc.
with Xtra) which are sig. cheaper and also with higher bandwidth caps.
The ones I was specifically talking about went like:

* Home Jetstream - 3Gb cap, $49.95/mth (incl Xtra charge!!!!) as long as
you have long dist. calls with Telecom) -  256K/128K
* Home Jetstream - 1Gb cap, $39.95/mth (inc Xtra charge!!!!) again if
you have you long dis with Telecom - 256/128K.

Now I repeated to the Telecom lad on the phone "Did the monthly fee
include the ISP charge from Xtra and was the $49.95 the all up cost".
Answer "Yes".

Seems too good to be true, an my gut reaction is that the $49.95 is just
the Telecom fee.  But ... who knows.  Was told they will be available in
a few weeks.

I also note that World-Net now having somehting similar on their home
page at
http://www.world-net.co.nz/products/?menu=adslcost ... and a quick check
of most other major ADSL players (Ihug, Clear, Orcon etc) don't show
equivalent packages.  Maybe World-Net has jumped the gun ... but would
seem that the $49.95 is a Telecom charge ... unless in combo with Xtra,
Telecom are going to get aggressive on pricing?

ISPs were given full details of these plans on the 9th of February. The new
plans go live on the 8th of March.  World-net won't be jumping the gun they
will just be publishing the new plans a few days before they go live.
