Dynalink RTA020 firmware update

Howdy,

has anyone else tried this update??? when i did just now, it drives my
router spastic... after the update and reboot, the router starts sending out
data packets at a frenzied rate... both the LAN and WAN sent bytes start
climbing... (cant be good for my data cap :)

Then... after a while... the router calms down... but the httpd process
seems to die and I can no longer access the web config using a browser...
instead I have to either use telnet... or power cycle the router to restart
it... but all that does is repeat the entire process... mass sending of
data... httpd crash ad infinitum

anyone had similar problems?? or is it just me?

regards,
Jared

ps. the new menu driven CLI is alot friendly :)

pps. happy new year :)

No. Ethernet type bridging is not possible with Telecom's network.

You need to read the mailing archives and look at PPPoE/PPTP type
solutions for external boxes or an internal PCI card.

Re: ASUS External ADSL Router with Linux?

If you want the "real ip" on your linux box you have a few choices.

1) ITEX based Internal Modem (most are Itex based such as dynalink, asus
etc)
2) 3Com HomeConnect (PPPoE to it)
3) Alcatel Home (or Pro) PPTP Connection to it
4) Nokia M1122 (this will do a PPTP connection to it (tested + works)

Thanks

Re: Dynalink RTA020 firmware update

i foung a "workaround" to this problem... i was looking at the paradise
usage logs to see if i could figure out where it was that the router was
trying to send all this data...

203.96.152.4... hmmmm the primary paradise DNS server.... i wonder if this
has anything to do with the new DNS relay functionality...

so i ticked the little box that says... enable DNS relay...

and bang... the router stops spazzing out... and everything is AOK....

i havent entered any IP address in the DNS relay IP address fields... but
everything seems to be running OK... and my DHCP client machine seems to be
operating fine...

If i untick the box... bang... spazmo city again... with the data light
winking away like mad and lots of traffic going out...

all i can say is bizarre! and when the tech support guy empties his voice
mailbox and/or turns off the incorrectly configured auto responder on
support <at> dynalink.co.nz i'll leave a message...

cheers,
Jared

PPTP on nokia m1122

Hi All
A little bit back i recall seeing some mention of getting a real world IP
onto a lunix box from a M1122 using PPTP --> PPPoATM
Can some one please explain just how this is done/setup ?
I've just received one of these routers as a replacement for my old 3com (It
died) and would like to continue to use the firewall/web caching lunix box
with out having to double nat and also because the nokia seems to be sending
IGMP pings (not sure thats the correct way to describe it) that are filling
up my logs on the *nix box.

Anyway, Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Paul.

M1122 Settings

Can someone tell me how to make a M1122 act like a Telecom Rented one in
Configuration Login/Password Manner?

I have a non-rented one and I want to be able to set
       A Normal user "(anyusername)/Telecom)"
and An Admin user "Admin/(specialpassword)"

(just like the Telecom ones do)

I've seem to set the M1122 I have at the moment (non-rented one), so its in
Admin mode for any username/password which I type in :-(

I am using 2230.R03 and I need to see what commands are available in User
Mode Only, not Admin Mode which its permantly set in at the moment unless I
can add a normal user and an Admin User.

Thanks

RE: M1122 Settings

Hi Craig

Using the CLI interface, goto #config/password/
then enter - "user password"
this will allow you to have a user level password for web and telnet/CLI
configuration. Like the Admin one you have, this still doesnt seem to need a
username entered.

cheers Paul

This was for an older firmware so it may not still apply, but I'm almost
certain that the Telecom rented M1122's used napt-password not
user-password for the "Telecom" password. Presumably this gave the same
access rights as user-password but allowed you to manage pinholes as well.
I'm not 100% sure, it's a while since I saw one...

Just add a password for napt-user and try logging on with it. (I also
noticed that changing the password applied immediately for telnet, but
needed a reboot for the web interface)

Regards,
Simon

This may be a "BUG". I'll contact Nokia about this if I can reproduce this
on the newer versions of the firmware..
