There were actually some flaws to this story, but the main point he was
making was that Internet terrorism is stopping the growth of the net and
that something needs to be done rather badly when a 13 yearold kid can
throw a temper tantrum and take out some rather large players (anyone
recall the attacks on ebay and some of the other larger US sites ? - they
were basicly the same as this)

This sort of attack was why we ended up taking down the Auckland Undernet
IRC server (5 such attacks in the space of a few months that lasted for
days on end and had no real reason behind them past "I want to show off
with my 'leet skillz") these attacks didn't simply take out two T1's worth
of bandwidth, rather, in some instances they were large enough to take out

RE: Any good VPN software available?

And to answer my own question I refer everyone to the very informative
article http://www.isp-planet.com/technology/2001/ipsec_nat.html all about
NAT traversal of IPSec packets. Turns out that there are source code tools
kits that you can buy, but no products available yet based on thse that you
can use.

Looks like I'll just have to wait a few months and see what can be purchased
then.

Cheers, Max.

Telepermit

After searching through the list I understand that eash Telepermited product
HAS to display the Telepermit sticker to be able to be connected to Telecoms
network, however as I am sitting here writing this over one of our customers
Jetstream, I can see thier Nokia M1122 doesn't have this sticker!!, and this is
a rented modem from Telecom, now this isn't the only case, I have seen numerous
other customers of ours with TELECOM RENTED M1122's without this sticker.
Double standard by Telecom, I say!!

This issue has already been brought up in the past and the Telepermit people
are aware of it and are "sorting it out" the last time I heard.

RE: Any good VPN software available?

you should also take a look the article below for IPSec over NAT.

Re: Telepermit

You will also find that the Nokia M1122 sold by the retailers does not have
a sticker on either -- A friend of mine has two Nokia M1122 and one Nokia
M11 which did not have stickers --- I had an M1122 without one -- Nokia are
in this group and will on request and proof provide you with the
sticker --- They did for me

Re: newbie security (and Pings)

If you port scanned port 12345 (netbus) right now on any 24.x.x.x class b
range, you'd prob find LOTS of trojaned machines you could use for such DDOS
attacks..

This is what happens when you give computers to monkeys ;)

Pamela_anderson_nude.exe <-attach your trojan, post to p0rn newsgroups/email
it as spam/etc, and boom, you'd prob have a small army of trojan boxen..

Hehe, i think having a virus on your machine should carry some sort of
prison sentence for stupidity ;) <tongue in cheek>
