By my reckoning, if this one sells, you're a very rich man.

Ummmmmm.... interesting price. I still have my Lucky Number 13 of 500 Hard Cover signed originals, plus
couple of soft covers.

Still have that hole in your Townes collection? Have some spare change you don't know what to do with?
Decided the kids don't need to go to college after all?...

Cash

the Cash family finally give Townes some recognition! Rick Rubin really should have had better taste and
incorporated at least 2-3 Townes songs in the American Recordings...

Rosanne says if she were to update "The List" to 2010 she would include
George Jones’ "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Townes Van Zandt’s "Pancho
and Lefty," her dad’s "The Man Comes Around" and maybe something by her
ex-husband Rodney Crowell.

Re: Cash

Crowells out of his league in that company, and so is Roseanne for that matter. Next CD will be duets with Hank
Williams jnr I'd wager.

Re: Cash

Yeah, all those recordings and not a single Townes song. And to add just
Pancho and Lefty to "The List" (whatever that is :P)...

Should've had some Steve Earle in there somewhere, too. All those covers of
everybody under the sun.

Oh well.

There is that "Unearthed" boxed set, and probably many other recordings and
perhaps conversations, and they may have included the above, and more. Just
seems like a bizarre exclusion. No Townes? None? Really?

Well, can't please everyone I guess but sheesh.

Every Now and Then: Songs of Townes Van Zandt & Blaze Foley

Hi everybody,
Last year after Christmas, I traveled from New England to Texas for the annual Townes Van Zandt wake at the
Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe.
That night, I heard some very heart-felt and stunning renditions of songs I've come to love over the past
couple of years.

One in particular got my attention. It was a young man and a woman doing Lungs like I'd never heard it - with an
Appalachian twang, desperate and loud, powerful in guitar and voice. It wasn't pretty per se, but it was
urgent, and that's kind of how the song is I think.

After that, those two teamed up and produced an album of Townes covers (including Lungs) and covers of songs
by Townes' friend Blaze Foley. AND Blaze's sister gave them some lyrics and invited them to write the songs
to go with the lyrics.

http://www.jonhoganmusic.com/buy.htm
Every Now and Then: Songs of Townes Van Zandt & Blaze Foley
"Reverent. Scorching. Original. Six Townes covers. Six by Blaze, including three never-before-heard
Blaze songs with music composed by Jon Hogan. .$15 plus shipping and handling."

If you want to support cool people spreading the Gospel as told by Townes and Blaze, sign in, log on and buy
now.

From the liner notes...
" Blaze and Townes, by all accounts, loved and admired each other. I wanted to make a record that would
present them side-by-side, like the friends they were. This album really started with a storm, a
handshake and a notebook of unpublished lyrics in Blaze Foley’s hand."

Happy first of March everybody!

Is Hollywood Ready for James Bond as Townes van Zandt

...well, is it ready!?

http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2010/02/is_hollywood_ready_for_james_b.php

People who knew him may dispute my assessment, but I'm not sure i share the author's vision that Daniel Craig
has the "look and frame" of Townes (on page two)...in fact i really struggle to imagine a bulked up Townes
striding out of the ocean wearing skin tight speedos!

Maybe a down and dirty "R-PATZ" (to use the nickname kids use for him) could do a job...

That's the word I was trying to find when I said it should rock. Yes Urgent
is the word.

Re: Every Now and Then: Songs of Townes Van Zandt & Blaze Foley

I'm definitely snagging a copy of this CD next time I see Jon and/or Maria. His version of "Lungs" is
incredible...I cover "Lungs," too, and was going to do it at the wake this year, that is until I saw that Mr.
Hogan was there.
Such a presence and such urgency. I'd recommend ya'll to look him up on Youtube. His version of "Lungs" from
the 2009 Wake is up there, as well.

the road goes on forever and the party never ends
