Can you imagine recycled TD music and endless re-releases?

Fortunately with Edgar in charge, this will never happen.

Re: edgar froese

thats a trick question right?(lol)..

while i am a fan of TD no doubt,i have never known such milking of there past releases in a newer guise,i
imagine edgar would be a dab hand at cut & pasting on the internet, even i still dont know how too do that..

the effect has been much less original material, thus having too wait longer for an actual original piece of
work, and when sometimes an original piece of work does come along,it is an absolute stinker(mota
atma),or a completly different theme altogether(dante's trilogy),which while i respect them for
taking a new approach,i don't particulary like it,i think overall TD(edgar froese),has tried too
accomidate for everyone, which overall hasn't worked or has it?

regards..

michael..

happy new year....

RE: Re: edgar froese

I think a lot of the recent re-releases and compilations are via other labels who have licensed the
material, and not always from TD as they most likely do not own the rights to much of the original (non
remixed) back catalogue, so we cant really blame Edgar for everything in this respect.

Another consideration is that apart from being an artist, Edgar is a businessman and in these times of
internet piracy then who can blame him for licensing out his work to other companies for
compilations/re-releases ?

Its probably fair to say that these re-releases and compilations are not even meant for us, the fans who have
it all anyway, Edgar himself once said in an interview after Beyond the Storm was released that people dont
need to buy compilations if they have the tracks already, they can make their own, and then he was confused
as to why people slated him for trying to give us something different with the remixes he included on the CD,
so unless you're one of the peculiar bunch who has to have absolutely everything released
(which is your own fault anyway) then you cant hold that against Edgar either
;-)

Um, much less than *what*?

Even after counting out the avalanche of compilations, live albums and remixes, TD still have probably
released more original material during the last three years (ie. 2007-2009) than in the entire rest of the
decade. Let's see:
-Madcap's Flaming Duty
-Views from a Red Train
-The Anthology Decades
-Chandra
-four Atomic Seasons
-three cupdiscs (1x1, Purple Diluvial, Flame)
- eight (!) singles/EPs (Sleeping Watches, Bells of Accra, One Night in Space, Armageddon in the Rose
Garden, Romantische Opfer, Fallen Angels, Choice, Cage in Search)
- at least one further album's worth of bonus tracks on Boosters etc.

If cupdiscs count as 2/3 an album and singles as 1/4, that's still over 4 albums' worth of works per year. When
were last releasing even three a year (again, without counting remixes and live albums)?

Top Ten of the Decade

Looking back at the net results from the previous decade, the 00s were pretty fine really, even if it was a
rocky ride… :) At least better than the 90s, for sure.

Without further ado, a top ten (including solo, excluding Tree):
1. DM4
2. Natatorium
3. Soundmill Navigator
4. Flame
5. Jeanne d'Arc
6. Purple Diluvial
7. The Seven Letters from Tibet
8. The Anthology Decades
9. One Times One
10. Space Flight Orange

Antique Dreams considered, but it rests too much on the 80s work to be eligible. (Soundmill I think does
benefit from the additions… tape hiss aside)

& while I haven't gotten my hands on Schmoelling's A Thousand Times yet, I have a hunch that it just might
deserve a spot on the list… watch this space!

Happy 2010s to everyone!

FLAME at Nr.4? 7 letters at Nr. 7? Are they really THAT good? And where are the 'atomic seasons'?
The anthology decades dwells too much in the past to be considered as a best of the 00s in my opinion.

Re: Top Ten of the Decade

Surely the point of these top 10 lists is to see what albums other people are liking.
There's no point saying "where's XX album or YY cupdisc" - If you don't agree with someones list,
put your OWN on !

RE: Top Ten of the Decade

For me, the 00s will always be remembered because of the Tangerine Tree
project.
