Cosmos

Is this the Cosmos w/Carl Sagan 7 DVD set that contains music by Edgar
Froese and Tangerine Dream?
I was wondering if it was worth picking?

Also, I heard of a new sampler that is out with a Tangerine Dream track.
All I know is that it contains the word "X Files"? in it. Anyone heard of
this release?

Happy New Year!

Yup, that's the set. And it's great...it brings back wonderful
childhood memories for me. I didn't purchase it for the TD content,
but rather because I watched the series when it was originally
broadcast back in 1980. And, in hindsight, I think it played a
fundamental role in getting me interested in electronic music. Aside
from heaps of Vangelis, there was some Synergy, Tomita, Klaus Schulze,
Brian Eno, Gary Numan, even Pink Floyd.

It's also amazing how timely Sagan's words still are, 20 years later.
Humanity remains in danger of 'destroying itself', even after the
collapse of the Soviet Union (which was still The Evil Empire back
when Cosmos was written). I'd also forgotten the whole segment about
the destruction of the Library of Alexandria, and how it set back the
progression of human knowledge by 1,000 years. Some of the show's
effects are cheesy by today's standards, but Sagan's obvious
enthusiasm for the material, and his shining intellect, overcome any
impulse to giggle.

You may find it worthwhile to order the set from Canada. Amazon.com
is selling it for 130 U.S., but on Amazon.ca, it can be had for $112
cdn ($71 U.S.). Even with shipping and (possible) import duty, you'll
be further ahead.

RE: Cosmos/X-Files

I heard that the Import of X-Files has an Oldfield Track (Tubular Bells
mixed with the X-files theme). I haven't heard the track but would like to.

Re: Re: Cosmos

Cosmos- a fantastic, almost forgotten programme!
Carl Sagan was my hero back then in the 80's.
That album is still in my collection now on LP and, like many was the start
of EM loving!!!!!!!

Hi,

I volunteer to translate. Native German, living in (Northern) Ireland for 7 years,

meaning that I know some sort of wee English so it is... ;-)
