Rules and Guidelines for the Pancham Group
==========================================

Please take some time to go through these tips, guidelines, and rules that we go by on our group. Many of them
are universal in nature and apply to most Internet forums. Internalize them now and you will thank us
later.

1. The group is meant to discuss Pancham and his music. If you want to post or discuss something that is not
focussed on Pancham, find a relevant group. Or, you can use our sister yahoogroup 'Panchamfans'.

2. Currently the group permits postings in either English or Hindi languages in either Roman or Devanagari
(Unicode) scripts. If you want to post material in any other language, please provide a Hindi or English
translation or summary of the text.

3. The most important rule of netiquette is "Think before you post". If what you intend to post will not make a
positive contribution to the group and be of interest to several readers, don't post it! Personal
messages to one or two individuals should not be posted to the group, use private e-mail instead.

4. Read the group postings for a while before you post anything. This helps you to get an understanding of the
culture of the group.

5. Don't post test messages - wait until you have something to say.

6. Be careful with humor and sarcasm. Without the voice inflections and body language of personal
communications, it is easy for a remark meant to be funny to be misinterpreted. Subtle humor tends to get
lost, so take steps to make sure that people realize you are trying to be funny. When posting humorous or
sarcastic comments, it is conventional to append a smiley, but don't overuse them.

7. When following up an article, quote the *minimum* necessary to give some context to your reply and be

Interesting article on Amjad-Pancham friendship

As has been evident in their individual interviews, the Jayamala
programme and their collaboration on movies, here's another
interesting article on the Amjad Khan-Pancham friendship.

The link:
http://www.b4utv.com/showtime/nostalgia/index.shtml

The article:

Think of actor Amjad Khan and the first thing that comes to your mind
is the film Sholay. After all it was with this film that Khan had made
is debut with. And it was with this film that he had sparked off fear
in every household that had watched this magnum opus. And that is
avidly watched even today. The magic of Sholay has not died down and
with the film one fondly remembers Gabbar Singh the ace villain played
by Amjad Khan. But few know that before Amjad Khan was signed to play
Gabbar Singh the role was originally to be done by Danny Denzongpa.
"Danny could not dole out dates for the film and I was asked to step
in," Amjad Khan had said in an interview.

Having begun his career as a small time stage actor bagging Sholay was
a dream come true. "Salim-Javed happened to meet me when I was doing
one of my plays. It is they who suggested my name to Ramesh Sippy and
that is how I got Sholay," he had said.

Thus a seeda-saada Pathan from Peshawar turned into a dreaded dacoit
from Chambal—Gabbar Singh. Though Sholay rewrote the history of Indian
cinema and worked wonders for its lead stars Amitabh Bachchan and
Dharmendra, it proved to be a setback for Khan. "The disadvantages
outweighed the advantages as it was an image I was saddled with. The

Re: Interesting article on Amjad-Pancham friendship

Loin!

Nice one....reminds of the Pune concert which Amjad Khan compered for RD/Asha...which I had witnessed
...had been lucky then to be a part of the organizing team ( my school that is - for which the fund raiser was
being done ) and I was the support staff for Amjad Khan's green room - he a had a typical habit - of having tea
and all the time - in a tall glass ( filled less than half ) of a particular temperature and taste which he
would carry from home in a flask...he would sip it once or twice and leave the rest - then again another fill
in a new glass till the first glass comes back after cleaning!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amjad Khan broke the ice with his first line saying " Pyare Bhaaiyon or R.D.Burman ki behano!!!!!....the
corwd was all in splits for a while.....

Thank you for sharing this nice article once again ...it rang a bell - and made me very very nostalgic!!

  Cheers

Re: Interesting article on Amjad-Pancham friendship

Thank you folks for bringing up such a nice topic. In this context I may want to share (though nothing that
special as compared to you guys experiences) that I had been fortunate enough to be a part of the
Dui_kishore concert in Kolkata where RD_Mehmood_Amjad were walking up the stage in a team and cracking
jokes. I was, on behalf of the West Bengal Sports Council ,assigned the task of making the seating
arrangement to the FLOOR pass holders and also the green room security part a tad. During that running up in
between did I share some light moments with Panchamda, Mehmood Saab and also Amjad Khan. On each and every
pretext I was up on the stage carrying drinking water for Panchamda, Amit Da , small Sumit and then else. I
was also assigned to look after the soor mandir (the audio co. from delhi who released the double album)
people. Now I especially cannot recall any specific tete-a-tete with Amjad Khan there, but whatever I
could , just shared with you. If you find
 this irrelevant topic, please inform.

  Thanx.

Re: Interesting article on Amjad-Pancham friendship

The piece has a lot of inaccuracies. Amjad was not from Peshawar
(Dilip Kumar is) His wife is Sehla Khan (Sundari was Feroz Khan's
wife). However everything mentioned about Amjad-Pancham relationship
is authentic.

Amjad was amongst the staunchest Pm loyalists and had proclaimed
that all his movies would have music only by Pm. It is a pity that
many interesting makers with great personal or professional
association with Pm either died young or did not make films again.
Narinder Bedi died young, as did Amjad then Vinod Mehra. Danny after
a promising start with Phir wohi raat did not make another film.

Re: another quiz

Here's the answer:

The song is "tere bina main kuch bhi nahi hun", whcih is heard on the radio in THE BURNING TRAIN when the
authorities plan to use AIR to communicate with the train passengers.

Neetu Singh is in the foreground in that sequence while the kid walks in holding the radio playing the song!!

cheers!
