One more Asha concert - Pancham the main theme

http://www.kavitachhibber.com/asha_unplugged_rev.html

“I realized that giving is something that no one can take away from you. The rewards of giving go far
beyond money and material things. Giving is something you will be able to take with you wherever you go for
the rest of your life."

Perhaps the significance of these words by Robin Raina who heads the Raina Foundation, a young charity,
that has taken some mature and measured steps to bring hope and help to underprivileged children in India
and other countries, is not lost on many celebrities. Many have adopted children supported by Raina
Foundation, others like legendary Manna Dey and Shaan and now Asha Bhosle have gone one step ahead and lent
their voice and immense talent to the cause by participating in shows hosted by the Foundation.

On 17 June at the gorgeous Fox Theater, Asha Bhosle enchanted a full house of ardent admirers along with her
two very gifted male co-artists, Kumar Sanu and Sudesh Bhosle.

The evening began with a dance performance by the local dance troupe Silent Killers; it was followed by a
dance depicting the positive and negative elements of water and the pain and destruction left by the
Tsunami by students from Kumud Savla’s Nrtiya Natya Kala Bharati Dance Academy.

Sudesh Bhosle (pictured left) then took center stage. This immensely talented singer who is also a gifted
painter and mimic has become the singing voice of Amitabh Bachchan-so much so that when Bhosle sang a
particular song in Bachchan’s voice Jaya Bachchan refused to believe it was any one other than her
husband who had sung the song. Bhosle regaled the audience with songs in the voices of Kishore Kumar, Rafi,
S.D. and R. D Burman. K.L Sehgal, Hemant Kumar, Manna Dey and Amitabh Bachchan. He belted out popular
numbers like Mere makhna, tum kya jaano, rang barse, ke pag ghungroo, Hai Apna Dil to Awara, Ai mere Pyare
Watan,Tere Sajan Hain Us Paar, Zindagi ka safar and duets with Asha Bhosle that were delightful. It is
amazing to see the range in his voice and his ability to pull this off since these singers have pretty
dissimilar voices and distinct singing styles.

Guidelines for the Pancham Group
================================

* The group is meant to discuss Pancham and his music and that's what members have subscribed for. If you want
to post or discuss something that is not focussed on Pancham, you can use another yahoogroups
'Panchamfans'.

* The most important rule of netiquette is "Think before you post". If what you intend to post will not make a
positive contribution to the group and be of interest to several readers, don't post it! Personal
messages to one or two individuals should not be posted to the group, use private e-mail instead.

* Read the group postings for a while before you post anything. This helps you to get an understanding of the
culture of the group.

* Don't post test messages - wait until you have something to say.

* Be Careful with Humor and Sarcasm. Without the voice inflections and body language of personal
communications, it is easy for a remark meant to be funny to be misinterpreted. Subtle humor tends to get
lost, so take steps to make sure that people realize you are trying to be funny. When posting humorous or
sarcastic comments, it is conventional to append a smiley, but don't overuse them.

* When following up an article, quote the minimum necessary to give some context to your reply and be careful
to attribute the quote to the right person.

* Read all of a discussion in progress (called a 'thread') before posting replies. Avoid posting "Me Too"
messages, where content is limited to agreement with previous posts. Avoid being redundant and just
repeating what has already been said. Also a good rule of thumb is that generally the content of a follow-up
post should exceed quoted content.

Re: One more Asha concert - Pancham the main theme

She seems to be repeating the same pattern in the concerts
everywhere. If you read the review of the Singapore concert earlier,
you will see almost the same musical items :
-- Her interpretation of the Mera Naam hai shabnam song where she
details her days in singing.
-- The Poocho na yaar kya hua episode.

RE: New file uploaded to pancham

It sounds very much like Asha especially where it goes
"tumhaare bina" at the end of the vocal part.
Made me wish she had sung a full version of the song
when I first heard it on the "Kasak" CD. I have not
seen the film. Is this piece in the film somewhere?

Re: "Aaj phir jeene ki" from Guide (Not Piya Tose)

Abhijt JI

Here is the link to an article/interview of Dev Anand.

Question:Even amidst his best scores, Guide remains a milestone.

Dev Replies:Yes. S.D. Burman would get deeply into the core of every
subject. I remember how we had recorded a song sung by Rafi. After
this, both Goldie and I were completely dissatisfied. We called up
Dada and told him about it. `I find the song very good' he countered.
We said that perhaps it could be better. Dada insisted that it was
absolutely okay and hung up. Half-an-hour later, Dada called up and
said that maybe we had a point. He said that he was coming over the
next morning and that I was to arrange for a harmonium. And he played
out the melody of `Din dhal jaaye...' We instantly told him that was
it. He smiled, flattered by the praise and said, `That's why I am
here'. This showed that he had been restless by the thought that we
were unhappy. Incidentally, we immediately summoned Shailendra, who
wrote the mukhda in five minutes flat.

I also remember how he implored us to trust him when we had to leave
for Jaipur for the shoot of the film, and a song was not ready.
`Please depend on me. I will send a tune that the world will
remember', he said. A few days later, with Goldie and I far away from
Mumbai, he sent us `Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai...'. He did this
again in Jewel Thief, and the song was `Honthon pe aisi baat...'
