Baptism of Solitude

New DTMG newsletter has a digipak re-issue of Laswell/Paul Bowles 'Baptism of Solitude'. I don't believe
any added material, but I think well worth buying if you missed the boat on the original release.

Is it? I haven“t heard it, and while I do enjoy eg. his musical setting
for William Burroughs, is it, quite frankly, enjoyable to listen to
without being a Big Fan of Bowles?

Re: Baptism of Solitude

OK...maybe a caveat there being that I'm also a Bowles fan. Much like Burroughs, I enjoy listening to Bowles read his work (there are a few other straight spoken word discs out there of him doing the same). I would say that maybe as opposed to the Material release with Burroughs, this one may not be a neccessity if you are not a big Bowles fan. The soundscapes Laswell did are more subtle on this recording. Maybe they would make nice stand-alone ambient pieces, but you don't get the sense that you could lose the spoken word and still have a really complete recording, whereas with a little tweaking, I get that feel from Seven Souls.

I always thought they would. A nice plus to the reissue would
have been a second disc of just the music, but they might not
have the original files after all these years.

Re: Baptism of Solitude

See if the album is still on the Music Hertz blog (just type Music Hertz in google and it should come up - I can't recall the exact address...probably musichertz.blogspot.com or similar). I imagine it will come down soon as he only had it up because it was out of print.

Re: Music Hertz Ow!

Nope...generally somewhere in the post itself you'll see a name or word or phrase that will be hyperlinked to a site that will contain a zip file or rar containing the album. Sometimes it will be in the comments.

I can't view the site right now to point you to a specific example though.

Yes - his site is great for hard to find and out of print stuff in general, including Laswell related items.
