authenticity...

This has to be as REAL as you can get.

And where is old John now? Just move over to You Tube and look under "John

"what exactly does this have to do with laswell????"

I apologise for thinking you might be interested in music.
Now I know why Laswell has nothing to do with this site.
Unfortunately.

Re: authenticity...

It has nothing to do with whether I or other members are interested
in other forms of music. From your recent posts it seems you to
think because only Laswell related music is discussed on this list we
are a bunch of narrow minded fan boys/girls who need our collective
minds opened and have taken it upon yourself to carry that out. I
think you will find that in general members have pretty diverse
tastes but don't discuss non-Laswell related music on this particular
list.

The list homepage has a description which defines what is on topic
for the list:

"The discussion of the music of producer/bassist Bill Laswell, whose
work spans several genres of contemporary music, including: pop,
jazz, funk, reggae, ambient, industrial, and world music. Other
topics may include the many musicians Laswell has worked with, music
he has influenced/been influenced by, and the New York City
experimental music scene"

The list has managed very well in the past with members respecting
that framework for discussion and there is very little "noise" in
terms of off topic posting. That does mean the list is usually low
traffic but what is posted has been overwhelmingly on topic. And I
suspect the vast majority of members are happy for it to stay that
way. There are plenty of other lists available where discussion of
ambient/experimental or Kylie and Nick collaborations is welcome...

"music

Are you now wishing to remove this area of discussion?
As Laswell has worked in almost every area of music the statement allows more or less any music to be appropriate.
Or is it something to do with rap?
Over to you...

Re: authenticity...

Actually, re-reading your post suggests you wish to exclude whole chunks of music that fits the forum statement.
You specifically mention ambient for example.
And the mention of Kylie suggests you didn't read the context of the original use of that which was actually about something else which was specifically Laswell related.
But if you are happier reading people calling musicians whores for making money then that is your choice.
Seems a bit strange to me but there's no accounting for taste.
I always thought of this forum as more a door than a box, but I guess you disagree.

I'm not sure who or what you are attacking here - your own shadow
perhaps??

Re-read what I said a few more times and perhaps you'll see that you
are tilting at windmills.

Re: authenticity...

I fail to see how that sums up a comment that you have chosen to exclude music of types that Laswell makes or has been influential in or by.
It's right there in the thing you quoted.
Tilting at windmills?
Weird.
Perhaps you're not used to people.... oh, why bother, you'll probably misread this as well!

Re: authenticity...

Dave,

- you decontextualised a single sentence which followed several
paragraphs which I repeated that my objection was to posting of non
Laswell-related content to the list to "prove" that I was trying to
prohibit discussion of Laswell-related ambient.
- you ascribed words and thoughts to me that have no basis in fact
- you have ascribed the same words and thoughts to other members

so who is weird here? you have plenty of form as far as I can see.
