Two audio demos for new sample library...

While not *directly* Laswell-related, this might hold some interest for those who create music and like blending styles and sounds from other cultures... I have been beta-testing Wavelore's new AMERICAN ZITHER sampled instrument library, and Wavelore has placed two songs of mine (which, it seems, have been very well-received) up on the demos page of their website, together with some explanatory text for each piece. Look here: http://wavelore.com/demos.shtml In its purest form, the American Zither captures beautifully the sharp and resonant sound of a hammered dulcimer (known as a santur in Indian/Arabic/Persian music). You will hear the "dulcet" shimmering dulcimer tones in the plaintive "The Moon Lies Black Upon the Straits," the first of the two featured songs. The second song, ostensibly an "ambient guitar" work entitled "Dark Matter I," was originally conceived as a proof- of-concept piece... the "concept" being that, with only minor processing, one could easily transform the sharp, bright sound of the hammered dulcimer into a universe of real and as-yet-uninvented instruments of all shapes, sizes and timbres... which could sit quite nicely in musics of virtually any style. In this particular case, I was shooting for the pensive ambient guitar sound of artists like Roy Montgomery, Stars of the Lid, and Ash Ra Tempel's Manuel Göttsching.
