I was there! Really nice improv session with Nicky in top form. The hour
plus gig was one long psychedelic jam. Skopeletis and Knox Chandler
provided a duel guitar assault while Anton Fier laid down some killer
grooves. Trumpeter Steve Bernstein added a spacey electric Miles touch.
While Tony Sherr is currently one of the hot, in-demand bassists and
provided some killer playing, I kept imagining how appropriate Laswell's
low, dub bass style would have been.

anton fier / arto lindsay

i went to that show. pretty good night of music. on skopelitis set, i kind
of agree with you that i kept imaginging laswell's repetitiveness kicking in
underneath it all - and even sensed that at moments the band sort of ached
for it. but sherr was interesting, kept me on my toes, and really
anti-laswell, while still in the same ballpark. it seemed the set took a
while to warm up, some moments of brilliance, but i think the chemistry was
hinging and often not quite there - again maybe it's just me getting used to
sherr when i really was expecting to hear laswell there. arto lindsay was
GREAT! i have never seen him before. i had no idea about his schtick,
which i guess changes regularly. but the two computer operateurs plus his
vocals and weird clanky fuzztone guitar percussion sounds set into such
poppish complexity was a melodic and emotional blast. does anyone know if
that set/combo is available as a recording anywhere? or recommendations for
arto lindsay records that are in the same vein? i would really like to get
my hands on his best records. by the way, yesterday chinese pop and movie
superstar zhang guorong (leslie cheung) committed suicide by throwing
himself out of the 24th story window of his hotel in central hong kong
during rush hour.

epidemics

The Epidemics CD, Do What U do is on ebay right now. Not mine. Be aware,
that this might be one of the 5 worst records of all time... Completists
only... (even then, I only have a CDr, and that's quite enough for me...)

Re: epidemics

Yes, Epidemics is a pretty disppointing album but the line-up and combination of player is INSANE! A
must-have, if only, for freak appeal!
