Looking for people who performed with Cage (especially pianists)

Dear All,

I'm forwarding this question from Tim Ovens <mail [at] timovens [dot]
de> who is looking for people who performed with Cage (especially
pianists). Tim cannot find a way how to subscribe to Silence again...

I have already recommended the following people to him:
- Christian Wolff
- Petr Kotik
- Gordon Mumma
- Frederic Rzewski

but you might be able to think of more!
Please email Tim directly:
 <mail [at] timovens [dot] de>

Many thanks,
Clemens

Hi all,

first: I am a little bit confused. Does the "Silence" - discussion
list still exists? I did not find it any more, since I did take part
in it several years ago.

But my main question is this: I plan a week with workshops in 2012, the "Cage
Jubilee Year" in Vienna. I am looking for musicians who did work intensively
together with John Cage, for holding lectures and working together with piano
students. I am just in the very beginning of the planning. It would be great

Video Clock

Hello again Silencers,

I'm looking for a more elegant solution to what some of my groups performing Cage pieces using clock time have been doing. We've just been using kitchen timers or something similar, but it makes a little bit of a theatrical gesture to synchronize those at the top of a piece.

Does anyone know the technical specifications of the 'video clock' that Cage made use of in the orchestral number pieces? I vaguely remember seeing some kind of red LED clock in a video, but could be imagining things.

Best,
Jeff

Re: Video Clock

Jeff,

We've used a simple, free program called Watch It - available on line.  We run it on a laptop, then through a projector during the performance.

Hope that helps.

Re: Video Clock

I made a videotape of  a countup timer for running---70 minutes or so, I believe--and then had that copied onto a DVD. Works great. I think he did use a red LED clock, and I priced some of those, but the ones I found were much too expensive for me.

Re: Re: Looking for people who performed with Cage (especially pianists)

Dear All,

Thank you for all the other names - some I had heard of, but had
completely forgotten about! The power of crowdsourcing - I love it.
:-)

I have been forwarding the names to Tim, and I'm sure he is now
"overwhelmed" by the number of names, but then not all of them will be
able to make it (availability, etc.).

Best wishes,
Clemens
