Cage and Watazumi Doso Roshi (Watazumido)

Hello Silence Members.

I have recently begun to study shakuhachi in a line of players from one Watazumi Doso Roshi, or "Watazumido".  I have heard that he and Cage had at least one meeting where Watazumi discussed with him (and "others") his philosophy of music/sound ("one sound").  I am wondering if anyone has a line on an article, or other resource regarding Cage's relationship with Watazumi.

Best Wishes,
Michael

If it helps, this meeting is described by Watazumido-Shuso in the Jeremy Marre documentary "Sukiyaki and Chips."

Please forward

Dear Joseph Zitt,

I wonder if you might be able to post the following announcement to
the Silence list? I think many readers might be interested in the
project.

Many thanks,

Hello,

I'm writing to let you know about a video project that I've just
completed, titled "Henry Flynt in New York." I make no claims about
my ability as a video-maker (some clips have audio problems), but
this piece does represent a few years of work on the part of Henry
Flynt and myself, and we're happy that it's finally finished. Equal
parts oral history and polemic, the video might be of interest to
anyone working on the 1960s and 1970s, music and politics, the avant-
garde, or the sectarian Left. In each of the short scenes, Flynt
stands in front of an important building or location and recalls one
or more visits to the site and why it has been important in his own
life.

"Henry Flynt in New York" totals nearly three hours of video, but
individual scenes are rarely more than ten minutes long. Although we
have used a playlist on Youtube to order the clips in a rough
chronology, viewers are free to click around however they may please.
The project can be viewed here:

www.youtube.com/benjaminpiekut

I've also created a mirror site at www.vimeo.com/benjaminpiekut,
where higher-resolution versions of the clips can be found.

This email is the only publicity that we're doing for the video, so
please forward it to anyone you think might be interested, or even
link to the clips on your own site if you have one.

Many thanks,

Ben Piekut

I haven't dealt with him that much, but after meeting him and exchanging
a couple of emails with him I had the feeling of being close to a very
kind and charismatic figure.

This is a very sad news indeed:-(

Re: Fwd: Daniel CHARLES (1935 - 2008)

If you understand french, I just uploaded a lecture given by Daniel
Charles in Nantes (France) in 2001. The topic of the lecture was "La
Poétique de John Cage". Quatuor Hêlios plays simultaneously "But what
about the noise of crumpling paper which he used to do in order to
paint the series of "Papiers froisses" or tearing up paper to make
"Papiers dechires?" Arp was stimulated by water (sea, lake, and
flowing waters like rivers), forests."
