Re: cage pictures

Even the Beatles wore jackets and ties for performances in their early
years.

new Feldman on Mode

Hello Silencees

Thought you might be interested in our latest Feldman release, with
information below.

And don't forget to check out Margaret Leng Tan's recent Mode release,
Volume 4 in our series of John Cage Piano Works. Featuring the first
recording of WORKS OF CALDER, a major work for prepared piano (including
Cage's percussion/tape performance taken from the original soundtrack).
See the webpage at:
http://www.mode.com/catalog/106cage.html

Thanks for your time,
Brian Brandt

Welcome to Mode’s fourth Bulletin for 2002.

NEW THIS MONTH:
The lastest volume in Mode’s Morton Feldman Edition contains many first
recordings performed by Holland’s The Barton Workshop (see below).

COMING IN MAY:
“Look She Said: The Complete Works for Bass” by Christian Wolff
performed by Robert Black with other artists.
And, in JUNE: The return of John Cage’s ROARATORIO with its original
packaging, now remastered in glorious 24-bit sound.

If you do not wish to receive future email bulletins from Mode, please
contact us and you will be removed from our mailing list with our
apologies.

I agree, even though I also could not spend much time looking at the
images. There is (at least) one error in the descriptions of the
photos: those of a _Reunion_ performance could not have the exposure
date of 1967. I completed the construction of the chessboard in March
*1968* -- just in time for the first performance at Ryerson Theatre in
Toronto on March 5, 1968.

There was a performance later in the spring of 1968 at the Electric
Circus in NYC, with margaritas instead of French wine (and without Marcel
and Teeny Duchamp), but I do not recall a projection of a chessboard to
show the moves. The photos with margaritas seen at the web site may have
been made at an even later performance.

The unidentified "assistants" that I saw were David Behrman and David
Tudor.

Hopefully without engaging in self-promotion or repetition of what many
Silencers already know, I can suggest that information about _Reunion_
may be found in my article in _Leonardo Music Journal_, Vol. 9 (1999),
pp. 35-42.

Re: Fw: cage pictures

I wonder if there is any way for you and/or
Daniel Wolf to pass along your corrections to
the web master for the site (since the photographer
is dead); my guess is that, since the site
has been set up through an academic library,
the site managers would be interested in making
the information correct and more complete when
possible.
