Dearest Siblings,

I decided to ask Issa about the apparent electronic tick on the track
"Grace," which was previously mentioned on this list (see below).

After a few back and forth emails about specifics, she's replied, "it
is my fingers hitting and muting the strings as i play guitar. real."

Happy New Year, everyone!

Re: "issa" quoted in zen 365 page a day calendar

i did find that the quote in my calendar was from the haiku guy "Issa" but i
am so curious about this last link you sent. i had never heard of Jesus being
St. Issa - i'd heard several rumblings of the "lost years" or his growing up
years, this is very very interesting to me. thanks so much for your wonderful
research! you rock!

Re: "issa" quoted in zen 365 page a day calendar

I don't begrudge Jane's desire to change her name to anything she wants any
time, but if the idea for Issa as a name came from the Islamic name for Jesus
(Isa or Issa) or from the Issa/Jesus whose travels in India 19th century
journalist Nicolas Notovitch purported to have found described at length in a
document in an Indian lamasery, I would have considered that a bizarre choice,
especially given it accompanied the timing of her decision to abandon all
possessions.

The decision to get rid of possessions is something I think is highly
commendable and difficult to do. But if one were naming oneself Issa to assume the
identify of or to use as a stage name the name of the ancient prophet who told
people to abandon their possessions, that would probably not be my idea of good
taste. (It is her life, not mine, however, so my reaction would be
irrelevant.)

Fortunately, Issa has provided on her website an article in which she
explained the name was chosen by her apparently as a feminine version of the name
Isaiah, and she claimed she did not know of the connection to Jesus at the time
she chose it:

http://www.issalight.com/press/press-1006-globemail.html

I did notice a week ago that the name was associated with Jesus because of a
program on a history channel entitled "Jesus in India". Some youtube items are
up about Jesus in Kashmir and BBC snippets. Wikipedia, as mentioned by an
earlier person posting in this topic, lists Jesus in the top two entries for the
several examples of Issa's to choose from to read about.

The Issa in the oriental calendar quote is likely the Japanese Haiku fellow
though.

issa/ jesus - that's all i have to say about that.

Mary,

thanks for the link to the issa press thing on the name choosing. i'll check
it out as time
allows. as far as the remote possibility of her modeling herself after
jesus.... well, i can't
think of a better person/idea/image/way of life to model after. hmmm.
interesting.

I wasn't referring to modelling herself after Jesus as a problem. I was
saying I would not think it would be particularly sane or good taste to
suddenly
assume a famous figure's identity as though to imply one is someone else's
reincarnation, but she already clarified in an interview she was just picking
a
name by sound and working with a feminized version of the name Isaiah.

Re: "issa" quoted in zen 365 page a day calendar

Jesus is a common and acceptable name given to boys in some countries. I
don't believe it's of any concern; I think she is just doing her thing.
She is no doubt by conventional standards different/bizarre and that she
always has an original take on things, is true to herself and a trail
blazer is why I adore her.

Many years ago I attended a workshop weekend she did and we did a group
study/ponder on how the shapes and directions of letters in a word formed an
energy map of sort. I'm curious as to her thinking behind the word Issa in
that regard. The S's certainly shape an interesting energy direction with
the roundness and the forward/backward shape and with two S's, it seemingly
intensifies that.
