Just watched Joni M's DVD "Shadows and Light" (via Netflix) which I do recommend to all you Joni fans. The band is TDF!!: Pastorius, Metheny, Michael Brecker, Don Alias, Lyle Mays. I cannot think of a band supporting a singer with more technical "chops" than this one. Fortunate Joni. Tho Pastorius' solo is so jumbled that he may have begun his tragic melt-down. [Yes, he has. I just checked. He begins to fall apart in around 1976.] Recorded in 1979, everyone is looking young and great. Esp Joni, she's wearing a teal suit, red carnation, purple shirt, black waist band, and even "red high heels." Go Joni!! She moves her derriere in the teal pumps in a excellent ladylike manner.... (Does that cute over-bite make it look like she's smiling more than she is...?) A good collection of songs, esp. for me two from the Hissing of those Lawns: "Edith and the Kingpin" and the sublime "Shadows and Light." -- enjoy the spring, Bruce
