Last Sunday Wild Kingdom

Tonight's the very last Sunday edition of the Wild Kingdom. After 5
years plus in the Saturday night/Sunday morning Midnight -3AM slot, I'm
moving to Friday Night 10PM-2AM PDST (GMT-8), which happens to be the
time slot I had during my first extended stint on KFJC. I've got an
extra hour to play with, so I'll be doing a semi-regular feature called
"DJ of the Month Club, where I'll be playing sets from DJs world-wide.
Anyway, tomorrow rings in the month of May, which is the Month of
Mayhem" on KFJC. Since the early 80's, KFJC has set aside May for
special features of all sorts. The year we have a bumper crop of some 60
specials - you can read about them at http://kfjc.org/mayhem . My new
show slot will be preempted on May 6 and May 20 by a couple of specials,
and I'll be hosting the 2-part special "Steel City Techno" on May 13 and
May 27, so the first official Wild Kingdom in the new time slot won't
happen until June 3. I'll be a busy boy all during May - check the
Mayhem schedule at kfjc.org to see what I mean.

Tonight's show features a shattershot selection of vinyl from Diffusion,
Kenny Larkin, Florence, Sterac, Glenn Underground, Dealer, Woody
McBride, Acid Junkies, DJ Hell, and others. The last two week's sets can
be viewed at http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=37884 and
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=37936 .

Limited time archives for all shows on KFJC (including this one) are
available at http://www.kfjc.org/broadcast_archives/ . These are
"rolling archives", available for two weeks after any given show. My
shows are listed under "Goodwrench". Send comments and suggestions to
info <at> kfjc.org .

"The Wild Kingdom" airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday Morning,
12A-3A (8A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay

Conversation with Rick Prelinger (Prelinger Archives) on his film collection

*Conversation with Rick Prelinger (Prelinger Archives) on his film
collection*

Link (PDF): http://bit.ly/ilo5Nd

This is a conversation by email between Rick Prelinger, Anna Ramos, Vicki
Bennett and Jon Leidecker, which took place on April 2011 in parallel to the
*Memorabilia. Collecting sounds with... *lecture series at the MACBA.

*Rick Prelinger* is an archivist, writer, filmmaker, and outsider librarian.
Rick has partnered with the Internet Archive (of which he is a board member)
to make 2,100 films available online for free viewing, downloading and
reuse. His archival feature *Panorama Ephemera* (2004) played in venues
around the world. He's now working on a second feature tentatively entitled
*No More Road Trips*. He has also recently made several film programs that
he categorizes as "historical interventions," called *Lost Landscapes of San
Francisco* (five annual parts) and *Lost Landscapes of Detroit*. He
frequently speaks on the future of archives and issues relating to access to
archives and culture. With Megan Prelinger, he's co-founder of Prelinger
Library, an appropriation-friendly private research library open to the
public in downtown San Francisco.

Thoughtless idiots who masquerade as supporters of small labels

To the thoughtless idiots....

So here I am 3 weeks from the release of a beautiful album by A Dancing
Beggar.

http://www.audiobulb.com/albums/AB036/AB036.htm

The album has been sent out as per usual to 120 reviewers on our promo list.
One or more of these people who purport to support independent music and
small labels has uploaded the album onto every file sharing platform there
is.

So it's out - people can help themselves for free. The £200 I spent on
postage won't get recouped, the £750 I spent on making the CD won't get
recouped.

Some people think it's easy balancing the books if you are a record small
record company - I can tell you it is not. I only made 500 of these and if I
don't get close to £900 back I can see Audiobulb sinking/closing for good.

So you may be thinking why am I ranting at you? Well I don't know who has
done this - they hide behind stupid names in Fileshare etc - but whoever you
are - you are selfish, thoughtless and stupid.

RE: (amb) Thoughtless idiots who masquerade as supporters of small labels

Maya

You are so naive

The artist has made the music over a course of years. It is ambient music.

He has worked on his craft to the point where a label is prepared to invest
in getting it made into a CD, promoted and sold.

I don't do this for the money - I do it for the love of the music. I work
hours and hours and hours per week on it. As well as hold down my main job.
I do it out of love for the music.

But if I invest £900 and don't receive a near break even return then I go
out of business and the music is not released.... the smaller labels get
forced out and we are left with myspace unsigned and the majors.
