Album art


Hi there, first post, please be gentle with me...
I have a squeezebox server running on Linux and a few clients on
various PCs and a joggler. One little problem I have is that the album
art is not always displayed. I usually have a .jpg image in the music
folder called art.jpg or something like that. How does the server go
about dealing with these images? Do they have to be a certain size
/format name?

Does SB3 supports 24bits 96Khz FLAC files ?


We now can find flac 24bits format to be bought in many sites (I'm using
Qobuz in France "Master studio"). But is the SB3 compatible with such
high rates & format ? I'm using an external DAC, so the internal one is
disabled. Then is the internal software able to deliver high rates to
the external digital output of my SB3 ?

No .

It's 24/48 it's no difference in work for the cpu to put the music to
the digital out or the internal dac , so it does not have this ability
.

However if you are running the server on a powerful enough server
(x86)
SBS will transcode 24/96 to 24/48 using SoX

I got a Touch instead for this reason ,my server can transcode but it
is rather busy doing so, it's a low power machine .

Can Squeezebox receive from a UPnP Server?


I want a solution for music without the need for my pc on.  Looking at
Sqeezebox Touch but it seems its not up to the task of looking at a big
music library.  It also won't transmit to my Squeezbox Radio.  I have
seen that the Cocktail Audio can act as a transmitter for a music
stream:

"The X10 will act as a UpnP (Universal Plug & Play) Server, devices
like PC's, Phones and Tablets can stream music from the X10.  A UPnP
client - and X10 without a hard drive can access an X10 with a hard
drive (UPnP Server) and play music streamed from the Server.  This
allows music to be played in different rooms from the X10 Server.  The
X10 works as a Server to the Sonos System allowing ripping of CD's
without the use of a computer."

So it streams to a Sonos....but no mention of Squeezebox.  Anyone know
if my Squeezbox Radio should be able to receive from it anyway?

but the X10 is a computer too, just a small one. And there are lots of
similar small, headless computers that will run SbS/LMS (e.g.,
squeezeplug on sheevaplug or various small computers, fitpc, etc.). And
with this, you'll have the advances of synching players, plugins,
gapless playback, etc. All of which you'll be missing with the very
rudimentary UpnP standard streaming approach.

And I highly recommend the vortexbox appliance approach. A little
larger, but headless, and you can stick it in a back closet out of the
way and leave it on 24/7 for about $25 of electricity a year..... I've
just added a second one for my second location.

The DLNA protocol (UPnP) is nowhere near as robust as the Squeezebox
protocol. Especially for large libraries, Squeezebox will be much
snappier than an UPnP streaming device.

Depends what you mean by "big". Also, the Touch's built-in server is
perfectly capable of streaming to other SBs, including the SB Radio.
Why do you think it won't?
