If space is limited, the real question is whether that's a blessing
(because the wireless signal will be strong) or whether the signal will
be nuts because everybody around you will have wifi.

For the most part I have not had an issue doing CD quality over a "G"
connection.

WD White bar NAS


Hi guys,

Looking into getting SB at home, but want to know if I can set up the
server software on my Western Digital White Bar NAS. (can't post link to
the device as this is my first post!)

We've been using it to stream music to the PS3 and to iTunes. Very
happy with it so far... really hoping I can use it with Squeezebox?

More newbie questions


I bought an SB Duet last weekend and tried to use it. My music is stored
on a QNap 209 II Pro. I managed to work a lot of things, but I still
have some questions about the SB. Could anyone help me please ?

- I tried to connect my SB with an optical output to my receiver, but
it didn´t work. The analog output works. DO I HAVE TO ACTIVATE OPTICAL
OUTPUT IN THE MENU OR IN SQUEEZE SERVER?

- When I ran Squeeze Server for the first time, I waited 6 hours until
my whole Music was recognized. Later I added an album to the music
directory (via drag and drop with the file explorer). On my SB Duet
Remote I couldn´t find it. DO I NEED TO RAN THE SQUEEZE SERVER (AND TO
READ THE WHOLE MUSIC DIRECTORY) EVERY TIME I ADDED A SINGLE ALBUM?

- In the menu of the remote control I found a function to power off the
SB. CAN I POWER OFF THE SB VIA IR (BECAUSE I WANT TO USE MY HARMONY 1100
TO POWER ON/OFF THE SB)?

- I´m considering buying a SB Touch. CAN I CONTROL THE SB TOUCH WITH
THE REMOTE CONTROL OF A SB DUET TOO?

there is an option in the Zyxel 334 menu to set it as an AP (access
point), sounds like this is how you should be set up if you have another
device that is managing your broadband/firewall/dhcp.

-  all audio outs should all be active all the time
-  you can look for recently added music two ways:  My Music > New
Music and My Music > Music Folders.  For the newly added music/album to
appear in your database searches then YES you must rescan the database. 
But you can set the server to "look for new and changed music"
-  Yes, the SBC can control all SB players including Touch.  The Touch
can also control all SB players.

Thank you very much for these answers.

Now I only need a solution for the power off/on of the SB. Is there any
possiblity to power off the SB after .... minutes without aktivities?
This could be an alternative instead of trying to power off the SB via
IR command.

IMHO, what most differentiates very expensive DACs from cheaper ones is
the quality of their opamp and analog output stages, more than the
differences in their digital converters.

The SBR (Receiver) has no IR control.  If you use a WiFi Harmony you
should be able to control the SBR.
The SBR has no screen and it's intended use is with the SBC
(Controller) which controls the SBR via WiFi, so IR on a SBR would be
useless in most instances.
I'm not aware of any way of setting a predetermined time for the SBR to
turn itself off.

The SBR (which is the player you have) doesn't have an IR sensor, so
there's no way of switching it off via IR. There's a plugin called
PowerSave which should do what you want re: a switch off after a certain
amount of time. However, it's worth pointing out that for an SBR "off"
really doesn't do anything. You may as well leave it on all the time.
