New(er) Boom owner needs help, please!

All,

Even after working with support, I am still pretty confused, and need
some clarification on what is probably some basic configuration. First,
my environment:

Radio: Boom
Platform: Windows Home Server (the only computer on 24x7)

Desired sources: streaming podcasts, pandora/sirius, local music
library

My confusion begins with the (very) recent changes introduced w/ v7.4
and the mysqueezebox.com site/service.

I have the most recent build of the software for Windows Home Server
installed through the official plug-in method (I know there is also a
way to install it using a terminal session). I have provided my login
credentials for mysqueezebox.com to the server software running on the
home server. After struggling with it tonight, when I connect to the
mysqueezebox.com service through the Boom itself, it shows - TEST after
all the menu options. I am also seeing conflicting information on the
firmware version. My Boom sometimes reports v50, but the server software
reports v47, if that makes a difference.

So, in no particular order, my frustrations/questions are:

1. Which should I be connecting the Boom to? My local server, or
mysqueezebox? As far as I can tell, I can only access my local music

If you have a server on, there's no reason to. You do need to have an
account there and give your local server your password for some services
to work, but that's all behind the scenes. Just connect to your local
server and you're done.

Ok, that much makes sense, but how do I go about assigning presets as I
mentioned? Why is the podcast menu not available to me when signed into
either the server or online, even though the server configuration page
shows the RSS subscriptions I have added?

Those are the types of issues I admittedly continue to struggle with.

Thanks again,

-Rob

ITunes newbie problems

Hello

I have just received my Squeezebox Duet and Squeezebox Boom. I already
have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo and was pleasantly surprised to see it
already had an iTunes service installed - so I enabled it.

Each family member has their own iTunes library. These have all been
correctly migrated to shares on the ReadyNAS (database, artwork, music
et al).

Rather than read the documentation for the Squeezebox stuff (I am a
male) I just plugged in the Boom and connected it to my wireless
network. Wow, it connected, found my NAS and found music. I tried
playing a track, but sadly it kept dieing. I don't now why - it could be
that the wireless connection was dropping or it was not decoding the
iTunes stuff quickly enough. Anyway, at this point I decided to follow
the documentation here on the SqueezeCenter_on_ReadyNAS wiki.
This upgraded to RAIDiator 4.1.6, and SqueezeBox server 7.4. I also
downloaded and installed the windows version for good measure.

Once this was done, I could no longer see any music at all on my Boom
or Controller. Disaster!

I then went into the web interface for SqueezeCenter 7.4 via the
readyNAS and told it to rescan all my folders. At this point I became a
little worried. When I looked at Squeezecenter screen shots I see an
iTunes tab, but there is no such tab on my interface. When I looked at
the windows version there was an itunes checkbox in the basic settings,
but nothing on the readyNas version. Anyway, I went ahead and rescanned

Re: New(er) Boom owner needs help, please!

Your local server SC7.4 uses the online server MySB.com in the
background. So either way, using your local SC or directly online to
MySB (no local computer needed) you will require a MySB account if you
want any Music Services or podcasts etc...

If you have not done so already, go to www.MySqueezeBox.com, create &
register an account.
Then install your desired Apps.
Enter your MySB login info on SC > Settings > MySqueezeBox.com
Now navigate (SC UI or your player) to My Apps, your podcast options
should now be listed.

Re: Questions before buying a Duet

Hi

Its looks like the duet is a no go then. Having researched other
threads it looks like the touch could be just what I’m looking for, if
the following assumptions are correct:

•	If I put all my music files onto an external USB HDD and plug it into
the back of the touch, will it work? This would be great as I wouldn’t
need my computer switched on.

•	Does the USB HDD need its own AC power adaptor or will the touch
power the HDD? In simple terms do I buy something like an WD ‘My
Passport’ USB HDD or do I need a WD ‘My Book’ HDD?

•	Do I just need my router switched on to listen to internet radio
through the touch?

Re: ITunes newbie problems

I have progessed a little furtehr by scouring the wikis etc.

I managed to get SC 7.4 working properly on my PC and enabled iTunes. I
did point it to a specific XML library on a shared drive but it seems to
have picked up all the music OK. I was able to play it through that
source (i.e. the PC).

I have also enabled the iTunes tab in SC 7.4 on my readyNas. It still
didn't want to play any of the songs however, so I am going to reset it
and try again.

In the meantime, any help would be appreciated....oh, and the clock is
now correct on the BOOM?!

1. Yes, but note that so far the SB Touch only supports FAT32 formatted
USB drives. There is a plan to add support for NTFS and possibly other
formats, but that might not occur until after the release of the SB
Touch.

2. Sorry, don't know that one.

3. Yes, as long as the stream is something the SBT can decode natively.

Touch provides normal levels of power on the USB port, so if the drive
is bus-powered it won't need it's own adapter.

Or if you want to control it with anything other than the touchscreen
or IR remote.
