Re: SB Duet playing sporadically (with time count reset every 5 sec)

I'm running SC 7.2.

Tried several configurations (connecting wireline network, disabling
firewall, disabling av). With no success. SB receiver keeps rebooting
every 5-10 sec

I checked the log and here is what i get every 5-10 sec:

Re: Best way to tag music collection

Due to surgery I didn't get a chance to work on the tagging of my music
when I posted this thread. All is well now and I have time to work on
this and I've spent a lot of time reading up on here but I'm close to
despair as it just seems way more complicated than it should be and
it's very time consuming trying to piece all the bits of information
together.

I've installed MP3Tag and followed the guide on here and I can now
manage to edit the tag values and then generate updated
filenames/folders based on those.

But I'm not sure I understand what's going on with Extended tags in
MP3Tag. It shows a standard list of columns but it seems you can add
extended tags and give them your own name, and then select a Value
and/or a Field. What's the relationship between Value and Field and the
Name you provide and how will Squeezecenter treat it?

I find the Tag Panel on the left useful for bulk updates but am
confused about how to add an extended tag to it it as it seems you give
it a name and then select from the drop-down (what happens if there's a
difference?).

I guess organising my collection along the lines of
/artist/album/≤trackno>-<title>-<artist>-<album>.mp3 would be fine, but
then it seems Disc Number throws a spanner amongst the works - how
should I both set the Disc Number value and add to the filename?

I regard the artist as the main artist on the album and am not
interested in seeing guest artists. So I figure I need an AlbumArtist

Re: from No Album

Wow, I really such at this. Can't really figure out what to do. My
files say they have flac tags but there is nothing under album, year
and track. I know they all did when I ripped them on EAC and then I
thought everything when right with Flac tagging but I guess not.

How can I add this info? I tried blocking them all and using freedb
but it did not work. Please tell me I do not need to re rip my CDs

Re: from No Album

It looks like your file format is "tracknumber - title" so you could use
MP3Tag to write the tag form the file name (%tracknumber% - %title% i
think) and then add the year & album manuall one album at a a time,
referring to somehting like www.allmusic.com for the info (whilst you
are there you could add the AllMusic review to the comment field too...
which will enable you to read about the album via the controller whilst
listening to it!).

How many albums do you have?

Alternatively there is probably a simpler way to add the data (and
covers probably too) automatically using one of the databases in the
sky (like freedb or Graceland) but someone else will have to tell you
how to do that, as I don't know! :-)

I wonder what tags EAC wrote then.. and why some are missing and some
are not? It's very stange if they are not all missing.

Re: Duet Receiver Networking Frustration

Use netstumbler or similar app with an laptop and survey your
environment.

I'm on ch6 these days as at least 5 of my neighbors are hogging ch11
where I was to begin with and another bunch at ch1.

I also uses WRT54GL w Tomato 1.19 and it's a different world compared
to the Netgear 624v3 i used before.

No i don't think a SB has brain enough to scan for the best channel to
use ?
this is often a router setting anyway ? (except for adhoc mode ).
I think some router's can scan and find different networks.

Re: Best way to tag music collection

I have organised my albums genre\artist\album CD#\track. Where the CD#
is optional.

I have kept the genre into just a few broad categories. Instead of
tagging I just use browse by folder to navigate. It is so much easier
and much less painful than tagging.

When the record companies provide full tags online including all the
artists on each track etc. I'll have another look at tagging.

Power Off Receiver

A very basic question, but i don't know how to power of my Receiver. On
the controller is an option Switch Off Squeezebox but that seems to do
no more than just stopping the stream from the server.

It is possible to power off the receiver or is it supposed to be always
on, or stand-by?

Re: Best way to tag music collection

Thanks gusi. I prefer browsing by folder on my HTPC in Windows Media
Center but the folder option is very slow on my Squeezebox Duet so I'd
prefer to use tags or at least have them as an option.

I guess my main question boils down to how to correctly add the
AlbumArtist, Compilation, and DISCNUMBER tags in MP3Tag and how to
populate them - can they be auto-populated and just overwritten where
necessary or do I need to do it all from scratch?

Re: Power Off Receiver

There is a meny item on controller "turn of <your playername> "
What it realy does is stopping then turn of the led.
In reality it's always on due to the wireless needs.
Off in SB players just shut down displays (if any ) or the led in SBR,
and stopp the stream.

So pausing or stopping is ok if you don't mind that diod is on.
Theres an ongoing bug that the SBR goes "on" and the led is then blue,
because in these cases you have probably shut of the server.
A minor nag for those who have it their bedroom

Stopping is better than pause in some versions of SC7.X as it can wake
on lan from paused staus in some older SC7.X

Squeezecenter on Windows2000

I installed Squeezecenter on my old Latitude laptop with 128 mb of ram
and hoped it would be able to replace my energy-sucking desktop, which
is running solely for Squeezecenter 80% of the time.

However, my Squeezebox is not recognized by Squeezecenter running on
the laptop. Performance is slow, which is to be expected, but coukd
this be the real issue here? Anyone having had experience with
Squeezecenter running on Windows 2000?

Thanx in advance!
