Re: pre-purchase questions

Yes get the Squeezebox, though you might never wish to leave the cave.

Did you know the PSP can act as a portable web interface for the Sb3?

Play all favorites at once?

How do you do that? In FAVORITES, if I pick one song and then decide to
skip to the next using FWD on the remote the song is replayed instead
of skipped to the next song. Why?

Congrats! Go ahead and get the SB -- it sounds like it meets your
needs, and if it doesn't, you can return it within 30 days. But I bet
you won't....

Which version of SlimServer are you trying to use ?

I've been running the 64-bit version of Vista Ultimate on my PC for a
while, but I'm lucky that it's pretty much all Intel based, so drivers
were not a problem.

My wife's PC is a different matter. No HP printer driver, no Promise
SATA RAID driver.... (yet)

Pre-purchase Questions

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy either a Squeezebox 3 or a Soundbridge. I'm
learning towards the Squeezebox because I couldn't find the same
community support for creating software such as 'Followme' plug-ins etc
in the Soundbridge forum - would I be correct in saying this?

My question is whether a Squeezebox can connect to 2 computers (either
at the same time or not at the same time). Say, I have a Squeezebox in
the living room and I want to access the songs from my laptop in my
room - I can do that. But what if I leave the living room to go out and
another person in the house wants to use the Squeezebox and access his
computer to listen to music? Can the Squeezebox be set up to do this?

Also, this seemed to be unanswered. The 'Followme' plug-in; does the
song continue from the first Squeezebox to the second Squeezebox when
you use that function? Or does the song start again? or the whole
playlist start again?

Thanks in advance for whoever helps, it will be greatly appreciated.

Well, that's probably more a question for the Roku forums! But I must
say the community support and open-ness of the server software was a
big factor in my decision to go Slimdevices...

Yes, you can run SlimServer on as many machines as you like, and have
Squeezebox connect to a server of your choice.

An easier way, though, would be to have a single SlimServer running
which has access to everyone's music (either by moving all the music to
a central location, or by cunning use of network mounts or links). Then
make a playlist for different family members... This would take more
configuration for you, but an easier "user experience" in the long
run...

Finally, I would add that I had high expectations which were more than
met. I ordered my second Squeezebox within a week of receiving the
first one!

SqueezeBox can only connect to one SlimServer at a time, so you'd have
to physically change the setup to point to a different one each time -
a couple of minutes work, but certainly not automatically.

"physically change" is a bit strong... its a few pushes of the remote
control buttons and I'd be amazed if it took more than 30 seconds (I'm
sure a practised user could do it in 10). But as mflint said, if you
can figure out a way of having a single server that would be even
better.

If you have set up more than one device running slimserver you can
connect to any of them through the remote - no manual config necessary
after the initial setup
