This would have been a username and password you would have chosen in
the slimserver configuration. It has nothing to do with your Linux
installation.

If you still can't remember it then you can go into your
slimserver.pref file, find the password property and delete the hash
(the crazy numbers and letters) that follow it then find the username
property and memorize your username. Save the file and restart
slimserver. You'll then be able to log in with the username you found
in the .pref file (just leave the password blank--you deleted it). Now
you can get back into slimserver and set your security preferences to

Well, ALMOST there...
Followed Mark's instructions as closely as possible. As Amrk
mentioned, I only have access to WEP via an ad hoc.
When it come to getting the SB3 to connect to the notebook , SB3 could
not connect to the notebook.

Then i tried the CONNECT button on the notebook, and that connected to
the SB3 (indicated by the triangle radar icon turning GREEN)...
passphrase must have matched etc.
All well. Glimmer of hope.

Then the SB3 was at the stage where asked to connect to the SlimServer.
Press RIGHT on the remote and it constantly failed to connect. Did
some manualy IP entries on the SB3 but all to no avail. Turned Norton
firewall / antivirus off completely, stil no luck.
Tried exiting SlimServer and restarting it, tried rebooting SB3 (POWEER
button for 5 seconds) still no luck.

Then i noticed that the connection to the SB3 was indicated as 11B on
the notebook... Other networks in my area were coming up as 11G....
whats the deal here??

Oh well... saga continues...
cheers

I certainly wouldn't turn it off because of that. I'd determine what
ports your VoIP service uses and port forward what was necessary. Which
service are you using? Most establish the connection through a central
server and are just fine with any router. Are you trying to do
IP-telephony from IP address to IP address?

Re: New Squeezebox - Painful Time with Wireless

I'd advise that you not mess with WEP at this point. For the sake of
troubleshooting why don't you turn off WEP on your laptop.

Just to review a bit: Be sure you're in ad-hoc mode on your laptop
connection, have assigned your laptop an IP address (Mark's suggestion
of 192.168.2.100 is fine) and a subnet mask. Press and hold the power
button on your squeezebox to reboot it and enter setup. On your SB3
find the SSID you've created (or enter it manually) then DON'T
automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP) but instead manually enter an
IP. Be sure the IP you enter is different from the one your laptop has.
You should then be on the network and the SB3 should find the server.
If it doesn't you're probably in trouble but you should go ahead and
manually enter the IP of your laptop (be sure you've turned off XP's
built-in firewall in addition to your aftermarket firewall). If you
get it all working at this stage then you can go back and add WEP.

Good luck!

Re: Not importing some Artist details from Itunes

davidd,

I've got a lot of double CDs and have not experienced this problem.
Are you relying on SlimServer to use filenames as the basis of its
cataloging? If you are properly tagging the files within iTunes, then
it should all work properly. I used iTunes to rip all my music, so it
was automatically tagged during rip, and none of my double CDs had this
issue despite iTunes following that naming convention.

Yes, you're almost there, and aznick's advice of trying to connect with
just the basics is a very good idea.

Trouble configuring EAC

I installed EAC and now want to configure it. I'm following the
instructions given in "Beginners guide to to installing EAC".

BTW, the wiki is sometimes a bit confusing. For instance, in one part
it suggests downloading only the "tools" version of FLAC, not the
version with the installer. In another part, it suggest to install FLAC
with the installer...

Anyway, I'm trying to configure AccurateRip. I inserting about 5 discs,
it goes on the internet, and then nothing. How do I know AccurateRip did
set up my drive's read offset? Is there supposed to be a message?

Re: New Squeezebox - Painful Time with Wireless

Encouragement is helping, thanks fellas!

>Be sure the IP you enter is different from the one your laptop has

This point has me questioning exactly what i did last night (after 4
generous glasses of Red at a bar ;-)...

Will def try without WEP security, so no passphrase required I assume.

>I suspect the CONNECT button turns the wireless card on.
Im hoping this isnt the case, as ideally i would open the notebook
case, start it powering up, and close the case and the wireless would
do its thing automatically (without manually having to 'connect')...

>Don't worry about the b or g thing
Thats good, i was hoping i wasnt going to get short changed on
bandwidth, that would then affect SQ.. (but i only have 192Kbit MP3's
anyway..)

Last solo attempt tonight, then i have a friend over tomorrow to clean
up my mess ;-)

Thanks all. Def appreciated.
