Brian Moore/GI20

Just in case anyone's interested. I'm closing the store after 24 years and
have 1 Brian Moore 81.13 and 1 GI20 we used for demos. Both are in great
shape.

GI-10 vs GI-20

Other than the USB and presets, has there been any significant upgrades in
the newer GI-20? Still use the same pitch detection or any advancements?

Re: Am I missing something here?

The original price on Ebay was about $199. I sent an email and asked
the seller what's up and he reported an error on his part and suggested
I check it again. I did and it had changed to about 1/4 of the original
price. I just deleted the email exchange today.

Re: Am I missing something here?

Greg,

You're correct! <dammit> <g>

This trick used to work, I don't know when Yahoo recoded their pages
and broke the thing. Sad, that, very sad.

in re: Notepad.

I can go you one better. I have a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that
puts a command on the right-click context menu. If you highlight
something, then right-click, then click this command, it will open
a new browser window (or a new tab, for those so enabled), and launch
whatever site name was highlighted. Thus, no Notepad necessary! <lol>

Mozilla has a plugin called "text/plain" that does this, but I'm
damned if I can remember how it's done in IE. I'll have to work on
that, RSN. <g>

RE: Re: Guitar Synth Midi ready

Brian used to offer the MIDI Axe internal option. I am under the impression
that there was very limited demand and the MIDI Axe company went out of
business. It is a great idea that in practice just doesn't seem to work out
all that well. It just like why there are so few computers which are
integrated into an LCD unit- makes perfect sense, but most people want
separate units.

So in 2006 no one made an electric guitar whit synth output midi ready...
only GK ready for Roland or other interface...

It's seem so incredible... WHY ???

Why Brian Moor i.e. don't make something like it ???
Why Parker Guitars don't make something MIDIFLY ?

Why no one make it ???

RE: Re: Guitar Synth Midi ready

Well it just wasn't limited demand- when I was considering buying a
midi-capable guitar, I happened upon the MidiAxe site (they made guitars
too). I asked them several questions about the software . I had been using a
GI-10, and wanted to know what the interface was like, if there were
presets, and what if you had to change string sensitivity at a gig because
for some reason it isn't triggering right. I got a respose a few days later
saying that they 'didn't have the resources available to answer questions'
(!?!). So, my mind was made up. Funny thing is, I had the $ at the time to
get one of their very expensive MidiAxe guitars, and if that is the customer
service I get, I would be very unhappy.
I went a Brian Moore...13 pin...and never regretted it.

Re: Re: Guitar Synth Midi ready

I look at this way: if you make a guitar that has all the neat stuff,
you have to get the player to want your guitar, too. Plus, you're now
in a competition with other guitar makers, in a zero sum game: if the
player buys yours, the other guy loses a sale, and vice versa. So the
other makers aren't exactly going to take that lying down.

But if you offer something that the player can use on his/her
*choice* of guitar, you don't have to convince the player to choose
*your* guitar. Plus, you're not competing with the other guitar
makers -- you may even help their sales a few units here and there.
Everybody has a chance to sell a product, and players get more choices.

Re: Selling Roland VG-8 EX

Rob,

When I want to get an idea of what something is worth, I don't
look at eBay's current auctions, I look at the ones that ended
recently. I think this is a much closer "finger on the pulse"
of value, rather than looking at the low-ball starter prices
that will surely climb, and the buy-it-now stuff that's priced
too high to start with. (Well, there are occasional exceptions,
but only like once or twice a year. <g>)

Seems to me that 400 smackers would be fair, if you've got the
manual, a GK pickup of some sort, and at least one 13-pin cable.
The fact that it's "hardly used" is of no consequence to a buyer,
they know that it's long out of production, that's why they're
willing to buy something that's a few generations old - it should
be cheaper than the current models - because it's used. <g>

Besides, other units will sell for that amount, or maybe a bit
less, and they won't look any worse for having been on someone's
floor for a long time. Only a collector will pay more than average
prices for something in supposedly pristine condition.

FWIW, my local Guitar Center just sold an EX for $360, sans pup
or cable, but with manual and original box. (They had it out on
the floor for about 5 weeks at $399.95, but to move it, they had
to come down 10%.) Moral of the story: sometimes eBay is not
the best game in town. <g>
