Re: Tracking problem on Bottom E usig GR09 & GK2A

It's been my experience that defective 13-pin cables can cause lots of
really weird problems with VG and GR equipment.

External Synth Sound Modules

Hello All:

Curious as to what most people in the group are using for external sound modules. Recently I picked up a Brian
Moore i9.13 to go with an old GR-09 I have, but I'm finding the sounds within the GR-09 kind of limiting, and
was considering something that would add increased editing capability and some fresh higher quality
sounds. Subsequently, I was wondering if it's worth picking up a GI-20 and some sort of external sound
module (i.e. possibly a XV 2080 I think its called?). However, I have some concerns about tracking with an
external module, especially if the tracking using a GI-20 and an external sound module would be not as good
as the tracking of the GR-09. Also, I was also wondering how well the GI-20 communicates with sound modules
from manufacturers other than Roland and if its worth considering other manufactures. Thanks.

Steve

I'm using 2 Emu modules, an UltraProteus and a Proteus 2000. Both have
a wide selection of samples and filter algorithms and the P2K boasts
128 voices. Both are great for building up sounds from scratch or just
calling up basic samples. You have to look at what you hope to produce
soundwise in order to know what synths suit your style. There's lots
of good stuff to pick from.

The rule of thumb is that self contained Roland guitar synth systems
respond better than converter+module setups because they bypass the
need to transmit data thru MIDI which will cause some but not much
delay. This doesn't mean they "track" better, which is a function of
the converter being able to turn your playing into usable MIDI
information without error.

UNPLAYED Gibson ES-335, antique natural with RMC midi...

Hi.
Emergency sale--typical but true.

In 2001, I special ordered a dot-version Gibson ES-335 with natural
finish from the Music Zoo in Little Neck, NY
(http://www.themusiczoo.com/). It took over six months to arrive.

Here's a picture of the model I need to sell.

2900 (the normal discounted market price from mfg suggested retail of
over 4,000.

I wanted to get into midi, digital recording with it and searched-out
and found the top of the line digitizer. The answer to that is RMC,
if you didn't already know.
Here's the link to what was installed.

$250

I also needed to have this box in order for it to be fully midi.
http://www.rmcpickup.com/polydriveii.html
$350

Then I needed a specialized, six-foot cable, which costs $45

The power bridge was installed by Renson Guitars, near Hollywood. The
shop is pretty well known. Kenny Logins was there picking up a guitar
when I dropped mine off, but I'm sure he has some well-respected

Re: External Synth Sound Modules

I get best results with E-mu Morpheus and Ultraproteus modules.
Both more than 10 years old, but both are very expressive, have a fast MIDI
response both to notes and patch changes, are very versatile and reliable.
