Re: Stuck Notes

Hi:

Newer units seem to have fewer problems, but there's a fairly simple
solution. After each recording session, do a search for all notes > 1
measure (or 3? 7?) and shorten them to something easily found, like 333
ticks long. Then you can always find them again. My old GR-50 also
made a lot of zero-length notes (or less than 5 ticks in 480 ticks per
beat). Filter these out and delete them. They clog and steal
polyphony. Also, my GR-50 sent tons of MIDI status messages, and tons
of pitch bend=0 messages, even with PB off. Try filtering those out in
your midi recording settings, should be less data to keep track of and
help reduce stuck notes.

Again, get MIDI OX and understand the messages coming from your G to
help set filters and recording settings.

Thanks very much.

Re: Stuck Notes

Thanks for the info Joel. Sonar has interpolation option which I think checks and filters out events, but
haven't tried that yet. Will check out MidiOx.

[Fwd: Re: Moderator's Request for MIDIGUITAR]

Hi Folks:

Please join me in welcoming Blake to [midiguitar]. Hey Blake -- I also
use a GR-1, exclusively for live music ministry!

Greetings from Venezuela! For the record, I use lots
of guitars, but my main machine is a Steinberger GM4T
into which I've surgically implanted an old (read:
non-retrofit) GK-2A, driving an ancient GR-1, which
only recognizes its espansion board if I take it apart
and shove it into its socket (bad design, Roland.) I
got the GR-1 so I could sequence better in Cakewalk,
but have found that it's indispensable for live music
ministry. I've used it for everything from altar
calls to latin jazz gigs - in my group (La
Diferencia), I'm the horn section! So - anyone had
any experience at keeping the nasty sounds at bay when
anything bumps the 13-pin cable? I've loved MIDI
guitar since before it existed, and it was an epiphany
when I finally got my grubby mitts on a guitar MIDI'd
to a module with an honest-to-goodness acoustic piano
sound at Tom Lee Music in Hong Kong back in '87 -
you'd better believe it, I played "Benny & the Jets"!
I've used MIDI guitar for a bazillion different
things, and am always up for sharing ideas. Watch
this space.

GR30 list of tones and patches

Where wud I find a list of tones and patches for the GR30 so as to
compare with the GR33. I think the GR30 is mostly guitar tones and
patches, whereas the GR33 is basically the jv1020, which has lots of
non-guitar patches.

midiguitar elsewhere

Howdy, all.

Just a brief reminder:
This group's postings ALSO show up on other sites besides Yahoo,
specifically:
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.music.equipment.midi-guitar/

This particular site filters out the SPAM and organizes threads
better.

Cheers.

Godin Tracking VS Action

Hello all,
I just got a used Godin LGX-SA from a fellow off eBay.
I was warned that the strings were dead, so the first thing
I did was restring it with Elixirs & lowered the very high action.
Well, after getting rid of most of the fret buzz, (raising the action :()
I went downstairs & setup my midi equipment.. & learned something I
already new-
fret buzz clips notes. Especially when you are really going for max
volumn on lower notes/strings.
I will raise the action more if I must, but does anybody know
of a workaround, like lower the string sensivity, or something else
electronic I can try? (I'll try that later, I have to work now..)

It seems like the Godin tracks better than my Brian Moore (why did I
buy a Godin.. I had to have one..) & has better acoustic sound, but
the Brian Moore is more playable..

thx,
Louis D. Va Beach, VA

Re: Godin Tracking VS Action

a pro setup/fret dress is the solution
find the best guy and don't worry about the cost
it will pay for itself many times over

there is no electronic solution to this physical issue
besides a well setup gtr will positively effect your sound
and playing all around not just your synth gtr work
