Re: K1000 display

Jameco shows stock on this display - which can be retrofitted to a K1000.

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_365982_-1

It does require a bit of soldering and adjustment to make it fit.
Procedure is at: http://k1000.net/display-led.htm

advertised replacement displays but they all seem to be out of stock. Anyone here have a source or a display
they wish to sell?

Re: Re: scsicardreaders.com

you need a iodata scsi to ide convertor and then the startech compactflash to ide 3.5" drive

you need the second generation iodata scsi to ide card as the first generation has a very long delay with the
k2000 and k2500

good luck in finding a card as scsicardreaders brought most of the last stock i have several spare but
keeping them for up comming purchases

I had one installed in my K-2000, and it was blissful. Later, I sold the unit. Realizing that was a mistake, I
bought another. But I miss the CF reader so badly, it hurts.

Now, scsicardreaders.com seems to be gone. Rats. Any suggestions?

Perhaps, one can gets similar K2000 functionality with one of these:

  http://www.startech.com/HDD/Adapters/Compact-Flash-to-IDE-Adapter~IDE2CFINT

Who would know if it's possible, and if so, how?

Re: Re: K1000 display

Dim is a bad back light, which can be purchased by itself and replaced or sent away and replaced.

One problem is that the early K1000 and 1000racks had their LCD back lights powered by an addition winding on
the power transformer. This tap provides about 130 volt+/-10 at 60 Hz. This is too low a frequency and a
little too hot voltage wise.

All K1000SE's came with a built in DC to AC converter on the new engine board that provided the power at 400 Hz.
Some later K1000's also came with the new MGK-41 engine,  Sometimes K1000 and EGPs left the factory with
the new engine, but the back light still wire to the power transformer.

Hal Chamberlin, Kurzweil sn engineer then(now chief), told me that a resistor of 100K ohms(1/4W) placed in
series with the one of the transformer winding to lower the voltage to 120V would help the life of the back
light. I have found that 220k to 330k is needed to drop the voltage to 120V.  This sometimes dims the back
light too much.

So if you have a K1000SE, replacing the back light will last for years.  Replacing the back light on early
units without the back light 400Hz DC/AC converter will not last as long.  Adding the resistor will help
life sum what, but with or without the resistor it will be a little dimmer.

If you have an early unit and what it bright, replace the LCD with a newer style, see K1000 group/ K1000.net, etc.

One source for back lights is:  http://telesisgear.com/

Please help; Midiboard Schematics or Service manual anyone? err13 msg.

Greetings to all I am new here and have a K26xs, k1000r and a midiboard.

My midiboard (v3)has just developed an err13 on powerup.

I would greatly appreciate a copy in PDF format of the schematics and if possible the service manual
previously mentioned.

Has anyone thought of uploading files to the group files page? I am happy to provide the users guides for all
my kurzweil products, would be a great resource for the group.

:-)

1986. It is very complete, including some theory on the Midiboard's operation. I have made a PDF. A note
about the scans, some pages look to be cut off or lopsided. That is the way I got it so many years ago ('87).

Re: Please help; Midiboard Schematics or Service manual anyone? err13 msg.

Acknowledge the error and it will continue the power up tests. Error codes are in the owners manual appendix.
13 is an ADC error.  And a common error, as everything is multiplexed and sent thru the ADC. So it is good to
see what else is happening.  It may only be an adjustment of the ADC zero.  Also use shift and to cassette
to enter diagnostics, run test 5. This will display zero to 254 of each key, slider, bender and button on the
display and help narrow it down. Any broken fader will cause havoc.
