The unfortunate thing about spam is that the email protocol has no way to check whether or not the sending
address is legitimate. An email can be sent using ANY email address, whether or not it belongs to the person
or not. Spammers use this, they harvest email addresses, and send out batches using various names. I've
had a couple of times that my corporate address has been used by a spammer (I administer mail for my network,
and receive all the emails sent by mailservers when mail is sent to a non-existent address and bounces).
Also, at least a third of the spam mail that I personally receive is sent using my own email address - on the
theory that people don't usually block their own email address. My company uses a hardware firewall, and
an email spam detecting program, but there r
eally is no good solution at this time.
It is very unlikely (although possible) that the employee of the Chicago newspaper is the originator of the spam.

on:) Thanks for the spam, next time use a more discreet email addy or just get a life and stop the spam, (clip)
