Hi, new member and soon-to-be Kurzweil PC3 owner here.

Hello!

Just thought I'd join the group since I just ordered a new PC3. A totally irrational purchase, but I've been
thinking about getting rid of some of my sound modules and my present controller, an Alesis 8.2, and the
reviews and audio samples of the PC3 (and its current price) just made it impossible to resist.

I'm currently the moderator of the Yahoo Roland XV group, but I've got a strong feeling that I'm going to end
up also selling my XV-5080 to finance the purchase of the PC3 (I've got a Sonic Cell which I use much more than
the 5080 these days).

Anyway, I was able to bargain with the dealer and knock off quite a bit from the $1699 price most of the online
dealers are charging, and it comes with an extra 2-year warranty. And it was in stock.

My only slight issue is that no one in my area (outside of Boston) has any PC models in stock, so I'll
essentially be stuck with it (unless I decide to return it). But I'm hoping I'll love it so much I'll keep it.

Anyway, cheers!

Jeff in Boston

KURZWEIL K1000PX

How does the K1000PX work?

Does it send the data over midi and allow you to use the expander module as
extra voices?

Are those extra voices fully editable etc?

Re: Hi, new member and soon-to-be Kurzweil PC3 owner here.

Congrats! Folks really love their PC3's.
(I'm a crusty old K2661 user).

There's quite a community of support and shared
enthusiasm out there for Kurzweil (and especially, now,
the PC3).

The Roland XV's have their charm, but I expect the PC3 will
be an ear-opener (as in "eye" not "can")

New PC3 owner:

Hey all! After all these years, I finally own a Kurz! Just cracked open a used PC3, and wow...the sounds!
Wasn't sure how I'd like the action, but I'm digging it!

Question for you folks...who makes the keybed? I'm guessing Fatar (since it has those grey rubbery
contacts), and if so, would it happen to be the model TP/10MDR? This unit had a rough go before me, and it
looks like it may need a key or two. One of the springs was rolling around inside when I got it.

Also, I notice the mod wheel assembly has provided two 4-pin ribbon cable connections, but I only see one
ribbon coming off the keybed for it. If anyone has photos of how the wiring is layed out inside the PC3,
that'd be great! Also, does Kurzweil make service manuals?

Ok...`nuff for one post. So happy to be in the Kurzweil arena!

Bob.

Re: New PC3 owner:

Hiya Bob,

I do believe you're correct in the PC3 having a TP/10MRD action.

The pitch/mod assembly, I imagine, is the same between the 76 note and 88 note models. In the 88 note actions,
there are two separate ribbon cables for the aftertouch that plug into the pins on the wheel assembly. All
76 note actions I've ever seen only have the single cable. Why this is I don't know, I imagine it has
something to do with the difference between black and white keys that exists in the 88 note actions that
isn't there on the 76 note ones. So don't fret, there is supposed to only be one aftertouch cable for your
instrument. As far as I know, it doesn't even make any difference which of those two connections you plug it into.

Enjoy your PC3. :)

who floppy

Good day all
Not sure if it exists (commercially) but I'd love to get the samples (on floppy) of the WHO's keyboard/synth
intro for "Baba O'Riley" and "Eminence front" . If it's not available , is it possible to make a close
simulation with a K2000S ?
Cheers
Herve

Can't get Program Mode to sound

Hello all,

I'm a new K2500RS owner and am having problems getting the sounds out of Program Mode. It should be a no
brainer to simply switch to Program Mode, turn the mod wheel to select different sounds, and play them
through my D50 MIDI keyboard... but instead of playing the selection in Program Mode it plays the setups
selected in SETUP MODE.

I also notice that switching between Program Mode and Setup Mode changes the "wet down" of the sounds. And
its the same behavior for all sounds in Program Mode, instead of the PM sounds I hear Setups.

Anybody encountered this weirdness?

I'm running a K2500RS with no sample RAM, no KDFX, and OS 2.96. A bank of various drawbar and other organ
sounds was loaded into bank 700.

Re: Can't get Program Mode to sound

It might not be set up mode, but simply responding to
some other channel.

Look for the LocalKybCh (I'm not sure where it is. I think its on the
MIDI MODE/RECV page, or maybe the master mode page? Set this to the
same output channel on your D50.

That should square it.

Re: Hi, new member and soon-to-be Kurzweil PC3 owner here.

Got my PC3 last week (took only two days shipping!).

My overall reactions is that this is one sweet keyboard. I was worried that moving from the full-weighted
keyboard action of my Alesis QS8.2 to the semi-weighted KB of the PC3 would be problemmatic, but it isn't.
The action, while certainly not that of truly weighted KBs, is still excellent. It feels strudy, nice and
responsive, and not 'plasticy,' stiff and cheap as most non-fully weighted KBs.

In terms of the sounds, I'd rank thusly:

Excellent:

The dedicated organ emulations. The B3 emulations are great, and the sheer variety of them is greater than
I've seen on any other KB. The ability to use the sliders as drawbars is incredibly crucial. I may end up
selling my Nord Electro 2 rack because these nearly give me a complete match. The only thing I don't like is
that I can't turn the rotary effect on and off or move from fast to slow without digging into the effects
setup--or, at least, if there's a way to do it, I haven't figured it out yet. If you know, please let me know.

Strings/orchestral sounds. The strings are great--not quite as good as those on the my Roland SRX-4
expansion card, but very usable. I'm also very surprised at the quality of the brass, particularly the
horns and trumpets. Usually, these sounds are afterthoughts, but here they are actually quite good.

Mellotron sounds: Until now, I've never been satisfied with the variety or quality of Mellotron
emulations. On the PC3 they've got a wide variety and some of them are just great. the Strawberry Fields
flutes, in particular, are spot on.

Very Good:

EPs are great, but not outstanding. I think the Electro 3 and my Motif XS rack do a better job on all of them.

Good:
