Problem Mounting Disk

Hi, i have recently replaced the batteries in my K2000 and after 
doing so, i had lost all my soundbanks. Thankfully i had backed up 
my sounds on Zip Disk. But, when i tried to restore the banks it 
gives me an error "problem mounting disk". I then tried to load the 
sound files from floppy disks thinking that there might be something 
wrong with my SCSI Zip Drive.. but, even with the floppy drive it 
gave the same error. The floppies are original and had worked for 
sure. 
I Hard Reset my K2000 hoping everything will come back to normal but 
it wasnt solved that way...
I allso removed the RAM modules i had recently installed thinking it 
was a problem from there..
I run the K2000 diagnostics and it gave errors on the following:

2nd NVRAM Dataerror
Floppy Test Failed
Midi UART Test Failed
Interrupt Test Failed

Unfortunately there are no distributors in my country, and i would 
prefer to avoid shipping the unit abroad...What can i do to maybe 
fix this problem..or is there a part i must replace to get it back 
to work again?

Or is there a way i could actually transfer the patches via sysex 
dump from the computer?? and if so could you suggest a software i 
could use to do this?

I will say that unless you follow the directions given exactly and know 
what these error messages mean, this is exactly the error you get.

I *THINK* NVRAM means you don't have the PRAM Upgrade (who does?), midi 
fail -- means you didn't follow the directions for setting up midi, 
floppy -- did you put in a floppy to mangled for the test.

Not sure what the interrupt test is...it has been a LONG time.

Beyond that, Zips are notorious for going bad without giving you any 
indication.  I had one that would save perfectly, but couldn't read a 
file to save its life...and I learned the hard way (luckily, my files 
were backed up earlier...in a less completed state...but it was better 
than nothing).

On the floppy end -- Try this -- get a bank floppy -- format it on the 
Kurz, save some files (doesn't have to be anything) and try loading 
again...see if that works.

(Unless you were one of the ones that decided to remove the floppy and 
put in the internal zip...I was one of these as well...and I screwed up 
my machine pretty badly....and then when I went to put the floppy back 
in, I put it in backwards!  Oops...the cable is wierd on the K2000).

Anyhoo...see if anything helps...

Start again:  Remove the batteries, and clean the compartment of any old
corrosion on the contacts.  Leave the batteries out for a few hours.  Allow all
static electricity to drain.  While it's off, and UNPLUGGED work the power
switch a few times to bet all the charge in the capacitors of the power supply.
Press some buttons.... let it rest a few hours.

Next return the batteries and start the machine.

Your problem appears to be corrupted boot up of the Operating and Setup chips
after a partial discharge and rapid reboot.  My guess?  You tried to change the
battery while it was running.... right?

The failures you reported are so widespread and unusual that I don't believe the
diagnostics tests were correct.  The diagnostics tests reside on the OS and
Setup chips also.

Good luck and report back.

You need to connect a cable from the MIDI Out to the MIDI In. Then run 
the test again. I believe the keyboard sends MIDI data out and expects 
to see it arrive on the input port (the test passed on my keyboard by 
doing this).

Definitely follow the procedure outlined by David to fully reset your 
keyboard.

Hi,

the floppy _test_ has always failed in the K2s I know, but in real  
life they worked fine.

For the Midi test, dont't forget to connect Midi in to Midi out.

Recording Vs Direct k2600x

Hello Forum,

This will be quite a weird one but please bare with me, i've been
trying to crack this for almost 2 weeks but still can't find the
source of problem.

When playing my 2600 plugged in directly to the soundcard and to my
studio monitors, the image i get from it is very small and it seems
that all the sound is forcefully crammed into the centre. But when i
record using the same soundcard to my cubase ( with no fx added to
tracks ) the playback image of the recording is wide and nice and not
crammed into the centre. 

Need help please advise

I think it's there to remap address lines and coordinate timing of the address buss or some such.  It was
neccessary to replace with a newer version when migrating from OS 1 to OS 2 or higher, particularly when the
Orchestral and Comtemporary ROMS were added.  Somebody with a schematic at hand might have a better clue. 
The only source would be Kurzweil service or a part pulled from another machine.  There was an additional
chip that would be replaced at the same time, if memory serves. This goes back to about 1992 or so....

I've never had the floppy test fail. It requires a
write-enabled disk in the drive before starting the test.
