One more spammer got through.

OK, folks, is it time for a poll to confirm restricting membership
here? Or can we handle the odd spam slipping in which of course will
be removed and the author banned?
Cheers,
Eric

Hello everyone,

just a quick hello since i've just joined the group. I don't actually
own a Karma as yet but am hoping to in the very near future. I'm
trying to pick one up secondhand at the moment. At present my gear
consists of a P3 sequencer, a Virus C, Elektron MachineDrum UW and my
trusty CS2X plus some outboard stuff. I'm thinking of replacing my
trusty CS2X with the Karma.

From what i have learned so far about the Karma i have one question to
ask. I understand that you are able to upload midi files into the
Karma for use as GE's. Does this mean single track midi files or can
you copy over say a midi file with 4 tracks and it will automatically
combine these into a GE. It's all quite confusing since i haven't used
one at all yet.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: New member

Hi Tom,
Welcome to KKY. Thanks for providing an introduction of
yourself. Now, to answer you question about converting MIDI files
to GEs, you require Karma Lab software called MW. To be sure, there
is quite a routine to get this process going and you really should
visit Karma Lab Forums (KLF) for detailed advice on MW. Here are a
few links for you:
KARMA LAB (Karma Inventor Stephen Kay's Website)
http://www.karma-lab.com/

KARMA LAB FORUMS (a very comprehensive set of forums for all things
Karma and more)
http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/
There is a forum dedicated to MW (and KarmaTriton) software. That's
where you should look for answers or post your question(s).

Hope that helps for now.
Cheers,
Eric,

SonikSynth2 from IK free download...

Hey Folks,
I just came across this, not sure yet what the deal is, but the
demos sound awesome. I haven't installed it yet, but I think it is
worth a shot. Here's a link:

Re: SonikSynth2 from IK free download...

Looks like it's just another demo version with limitations. Here's
the scoop:
"Sonik Synth™ 2 FREE features
Sonik Synth™ 2 FREE is a full working version of Sonik Synth™ 2 with
the following
limitations:
1) It opens only a limited selection of sounds made just for the
FREE version.
Trying to load a different sound will display an alert message.
2) Only one instance is available. Opening more than one instance
the info panel will be
displayed and the following message will appear:
"Only one instance is allowed. Multiple instances are available only
in the full version of Sonik
Synth 2"
3) Trying to save a user preset will display the following message:
"Sonik Synth 2 FREE cannot save user presets. Save presets is
available only in the full
version of Sonik Synth 2".

Re: SonikSynth2 from IK free download...

Hi,

Well I'm going to bite the bullet and ask a question that will label me as
completely clueless.
I have a Karma but I don't do anything more than turn it on, pick a sound or
combi and play. I have managed to load sounds that people have authored into
banks C and D and play them but that's the extent of my doing anything more
than just playing the keyboard. I have the MW software (complimentary with
my purchase) and I looked at it on my computer (have never hooked the
keyboard up to my pc though). Truthfully I found it a bit overwhelming and
didn't see what I would use it for. Now I see this SonikSynth software. What
is this for? Is it just more sounds? What would someone who just wants to
play their keyboard do with this? Eric, I see your offers all the time but
again, I don't know exactly what would happen if I bought one of them. Is it
just more sounds? Do they overwrite what I have already? Would any of these
things help make more realistic piano/organ sounds?

Okay, that was my main question.. or rather questions. The following is more
of a vent than anything else I guess.

I also am finding the karma quite difficult to create songs on. Actually I
have never been able to and have given up trying. I used to have a VFX-SD
and I could record songs very easily on it. Push the button marked Track 1
(or 2 or..), push record, and play. Also whatever you were working on was
always there when you turned it back on. The karma loses everything you were
doing when the power goes off. It can keep the sounds in the banks so why
couldn't it keep the songs you are working on too? I bought the Karma
because the combi effects, runs, whatever were so cool. But I'm not a lounge
lizard so I can't use them when playing with others. What I need/want out of
a keyboard are to be able to add a sound (violin, breathy, organ, etc) when

Hi Tom,

for creating your own GE's, you need the KARMA software.
Do not expect too much concerning MIDI file upload, as
GE's usually consist of a quite limited note series.

AFAIK, it is quite complicated (at least for me) to create new
GE's. From my point of view, it is likely that you play around with
the existing GE's. (for months ... years ???)

Maybe, you have the idea of GE's being something like a
sequencer thingie or the like, but they aren't.

For me, it does not make sense to import a multi track
MIDI file to GE's, because the different tracks usually
play different instruments / programs whereas a single
GE can "play" only one program or combination
(of programs).

Hi Eric,

a real spammer won't mind being banned if a new account can
be created easily.

Re: SonikSynth2 from IK free download...

Hi there! well Eric,i have purchased this sonik synth 2 about 5
months ago,and i must say it's a total disappointment(except old
synthesizers group,which is very good,but i don't need it).The demos
sounds pretty cool indeed,but what's inside....well..THIN THIN
THIN!!!and i mean it.
i do not understand the people from Sonic Reality,it's 8,5 gigs for
Christ sake! First i've played the piano,i thought "well..it's
ok",then i checked for strings "WHATTA' F..???,looked at the brass
section "WHATTA' F..??? I have 48 megs on my karma and, damn,it sounds
WAY better. I need 20 good presets ,not a couple thousands of useless
crap.;)
 Regards!
(please excuse my english)

1. maybe you should try http://www.karma-lab.com/forum
this is where stephen kay (karma designer) and a lot of karma owners have
gone.

2. are you using karma os 2.0? it has a feature called "auto song setup"
that makes it pretty easy to take any combi or program and copy it into the
sequencer for instant recording.

3. there's nothing difficult about saving a song to a floppy disk, and
reloading it when you turn the unit back on. i think every karma owner
should learn how to do this simple task.
