Re: Oscars and Wall Street

Did you read the Taibbi, Rolling Stone article by any chance?

The SEC is a stepping stone for lawyers who ultimately want to work at the
same firms they are supposed to be regulating. The SEC, Wall Street Banks,
Federal Reserve are just different partitions of the same revolving door.
DoJ which is the govt. agency that would do the prosecuting relies on the
SEC for direction on who to prosecute and the evidence upon which to
prosecute. So it the SEC is corrupted the DoJ isn't in much of a position
to start up prosecutions on their own.

FWIW, I don't rely heavily on Rolling Stone, they do too much hack

Re: Oscars and Wall Street

I may actually beg to differ somewhat. I did a little searching on who he
is and what he says, and perhaps he has the right idea on some things, but
he also pretty much thinks you and I are deluded racists and tools of wall
street.

Or at least the tea party. And I won't bother going into his views on Palin
and other conservatives like Huckabee.

The only irony is that many on the left despise him. Interesting.

Maybe his saving grace is that no one likes him....

I guess I cannot say he is a partisan hack, but I am not sure I want to
stray too far from the word hack either. Maybe he is the male Coulter...

Not only that, but $99 billion is less than 1% of a $14 Trillion
dollar deficit!

Whether he is or not is irrelevant.  The fraud had been documented by many blogs, economists and other well resected finance watchers long before Taibbi.  He didn't really break new ground, but what he did was help popularize it and give the enemy a name (ala  vampire squid).

He may have a good perspective on this particular issue, but his stances
elsewhere are fairly bad.

I am not saying I dismiss him, but you have to be honest: He does publish
some hack articles.

To answer the exact wording of your complaint: Yes, much of what they did
was unethical but legal.

However (as Lance has asserted and provided myriad links to support), a
significant portion was neither ethical nor legal. If we had prosecutors
who were doing their jobs, multiple executives from most (if not all) of the
major financial institutions would be in jail by now.
