Heh. Elizabeth may have been 4 lbs 12 oz when she was born eight weeks
ago (well, it will be eight weeks *tomorrow*, at any rate), but as of
today, when the community nurse weighed her, she is 8 lbs 11 oz.

Meanwhile, Thomas, who was 5 lbs 2 oz at birth, is 9 lbs 10 oz now.

Or maybe God just didn't feel like being put to the test for this study...

Re: Western Standard sued for publishing cartoons

I thought it was unnecessary and inconsiderate for the Western
Standard to publish the cartoons, but this is just stupid.

But hasn't the Constitution been expanded to help government fit? (E.g.
Prohibition.)

He's interesting, but not one of the filmmakers I've internalized -- he's
one of those directors where I have to check my notes before joining a
discussion about him. :) FWIW, I wrote about Alexander Nevsky here:

Generally the impression that I get is that immigrants are harder
working than people born here in Canada. I can't see why that'd be
different in the US.

A complete crock, of course, but what strikes me about this quote is that
"safe" is not always a good thing, and sometimes children need to take
risks, to be pushed out on a limb, to face danger -- something that
traditionally has been more of a Daddy's job.

Which leads me to wonder if maybe someone, somewhere, would write a
children's book in which Democrats and Republicans work together for the
common good, just like Mommy and Daddy do.

Um, well, assuming Mommy isn't a single lesbian who conceived through
in-vitro fertilization, that is.

Unnecessary? It's news! I'd say it was *necessary*, if anything.

Hmmm, wonder how this may or may not be reflected in the presidencies --
listed here, with the age of their children at the beginnings of their
first terms (and please correct me if I'm missing anything):

   2001- -- Bush II -- 2 daughters, aged 19
   1993-2001 -- Clinton -- 1 daughter, aged 12

                                2 sons, aged 35 to 22
(1 daughter, died at age 0 in 1947)
   1977-1981 -- Carter -- 1 daughter, aged 9
                                3 sons, aged 29 to 24

                                3 sons, aged 23 to 17
   1969-1974 -- Nixon -- 2 daughters, aged 22 to 20

   1953-1961 -- Eisenhower -- 1 son, aged 29

And then you had another constitutional amendment *repealing* prohibition
only 14 years later! Those must have been, um, interesting times, to
produce such a whiplash-inducing change of public opinion.
