Authvchkpw and Courier-authlib - Courier-imap and vpopmail

Hi all,

I am writing a new guide (or attempting to do so) for installing qmail on Fedora 12 using all the latest updates etc.

I have been using qmail for number of years and started with the qmailrocks guide in 2005.  It really helped be get into qmail and I then started reading and learning.

Anyway, I have installed most things including vpopmail-5.4.30 and Courier-authlib-0.63.0 and courier-imap-4.7.0.

After a lot of googling, it seems that I can not use these courier packages as courier have dropped authvchkpw from their packages.

Am I correct in saying that this will no longer work?  The only way to make it all work (eg using squirrelmail etc) is to install courier-authlib-0.62.0 and courier-imap-4.3.0?  Or is there a fix / patch available?

A lot of comments say qmail is dead – I bloody hope not.

The other issue I have had is with Qmailadmin-1.2.14.  I installed vpopmail with onchange and now I cannot install qmailadmin – the errors are:

Qmailadmin-1.1.12/mailinglist.c:651: undefined reference to 'onchange_buf'

Qmailadmin-1.1.12/mailinglist.c:652: undefined reference to 'call_onchange'

Qmailadmin-1.1.12/mailinglist.c:340: undefined reference to 'onchange_buf'

Qmailadmin-1.1.12/mailinglist.c:341: undefined reference to 'call_onchange'

I have been googling for hours to no avail to fix this – although I can do without qmailadmin.

Thanks heaps for any help

Dave from OZ

Hi Dave (from Oz),

Have you looked at John Simpson's website? It's a better qmail solution than hassling with QMR which is VERY out of date.

cheers

Dave from Downunder :-)

Thanks Dave from Downunder,

Yes I have and my new little guide is based a lot on John’s site.  When I mentioned QMR, it was just to say 5 years ago it was great and where I started.

Unfortunately the issues above are still there.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks  Dave from OZ

As said allready,

If you check-out John Simpsons site : http://qmail.jms1.net/ then you'll
see he's recommending dovecot as a replacement for courier.

I've installed it on Debian Lenny (Alpha release) & it's working like a
beauty.

I can't get your question correctly. I assume you want to block a server from relaying on your qmail server? Right ?

root#vi /etc/tcp.smtp
#comment out the server ip
#'SERVERIP.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""'
:wq

and run
root#qmailctl cdb

Hello,

Courier has since dropped the auth module for vchkpw so it will not work. Dovecot would be the best choice.

Hello,

Shepherd you have it wrong. That line is to allow users on SERVERIP to relay mail hence the RELAYCLIENT="" variable.

If you just want to allow mail and no relaying just add this line to /etc/tcp.smtp

:allow

then run qmailctl cdb

For added security you can go into vqadmin or the cli and disable each user from relaying mail.

True...

Thanks Bill :-) over looked that fact .

Hello,

READ THE RULES IN REGARDS TO TOP POSTING

Now then

If you trust your local lan, leave the 2nd line. I would suggest taking out the ,RELAYCLIENT="" in the first line and that should disallow relaying.
