SSL problem, and usage question

I just set my imap server and my nail program.

PROBLEM 1: SSL

nail works fine agains courier-imap server, but when
used against the courier-imap-ssl it bombs.

I use 

set folder=imap://localhost/
or
set folder=imaps://localhost/

respectively, and

set ssl-verify=ignore

to avoid verification. But when I use imaps it either
dies with

"IMAP write error: error:1409E0E5:SSL
routines:SSL3_WRITE_BYTES:ssl handshake failure
IMAP write error: Bad file descriptor"

or

"could not initiate SSL/TLS connection:
error:1408F119:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:decryption
failed or bad record mac"
