Messages tagged as Old ("O")

Dear Mutt Users,

My Mutt is 1.5.13. I have no issues with it, except that all of my
incoming mail (to my mboxes) are flagged as "O" instead of "N". And
when I read them, they are marked as read and it's all right. But why
are they marked with an "O" instead of an "N"? How do I find out?

Thanks!

Sorry, I realized that I had nomark_old set. Hence the problem.

Sorry again!

But that wasn't the issue. All my incoming mails (delivered by
procmail to my mboxes) are marked "O". What else could the reason be?

Thanks.

You do not give enough information, but a guess: You are running a
mail notification program.

Explanation: Mutt will remove the "N" flag or set it to "O" if the
directory containing subject file has been accessed, depending on your
settings.

You can stop the "O" flag by unsetting "mark_old", ie: unset mark_old,
but the "N" flag will still be removed by directory access.

Or you may use check_mbox_size=yes (mutt => 1.5.15 IIRC)

sidebar patch for mutt 1.5.16?

Does anyone have a working sidebar patch for mutt 1.15.16? The latest
posted on the sidebar website is for 1.15.15.

I wrote an e-mail to the (Terry P. Chan / tchan <at> lunar-linux.org)
current maintainer of the patch for the previous mutt-devel version.
Since this is a lot of work I'm sure that he will take any help that
he can get.
In the meantime I tried to patch the current version with the last
patch - display of the folders and navigation works. It seems that it
should not be a big problem to port this to the new mutt-devel
version.

I think you're right. I'll try to find out which program it is that
reads my mboxes.

Thanks.

I used Terry's excellent patch for 1.5.15 to write a new one for
1.5.16. You can find it at
http://vader.homeunix.org/~hoschi/src/mutt-devel/mutt-1.5.16.sidebar.20070702.patch

It works fine for me with imap-ssl/hcache.

I tried the 4 combinations

   (un)set $use_from, (un)set $use_envelope_from

with the same results.

This problem is very strange since it
works when I close and open mutt again.
Does not seem to be related to configuration (?).

    Thanks Mitchael,
