Initial Comment:
If this happens, it will cause errors until the directory is either re-created or the *MH-E-log* buffer is
deleted or the directory in it changed.

The problem is, it's not clear that the *MH-E-log* buffer is the problem.  This bug plagued me for years
before I finally figured out what the problem was.

Initial Comment:
Stefan Monnier recently made a few changes that suggests the following
global changes in MH-E's code:

1. Replace (save-excursion (set-buffer buffer)...) with
(with-current-buffer buffer ...).

2. Replace (buffer-read-only nil) with (inhibit-read-only t).

3. Replace (default-enable-multibyte-characters nil) in let with call
to (set-buffer-multibyte nil).

Thank you for the other cleanups in addition to these changes.

I already had the with-current-buffer changes in my todo list, but I
wasn't aware of the others. I'll make a global change in MH-E as soon as
I can. The NASA Kepler project [1] is keeping me pretty damn busy right
now though so help from other is always very much appreciated!
