Fwd: oddity in SMTP dialogue

I just ran into this odd bug (?) again,
and I do not recall any previous analysis of it.

Cheers,
Alan Isaac

To: Mahogany-users <mahogany-users <at> lists.sourceforge.net>

I temporarily changed my SMTP password
to be my userid. (Why is irrelevant.)

So I go to
Edit/Preferences/Network
and enter an SMTP server password.
It seems that this is not accepted
(and without warning) if it is the
same as the SMTP server user ID.

That is, if I close the dialogue with the
"OK" button, and then reopen it, I find
the value was not stored.

Re: Fwd: oddity in SMTP dialogue

(Stupid reply-to-sender on list messages -- Sorry for the extra copy Alan.)

Actually, the password just can't be an EVEN number of characters. If you
do happen to get one with an even number of characters stored (say by
importing settings from another system) then when you access "properties"
it tosses up a "Decrypt called with illegal function" error.

I think they fixed it in a later CVS build but it doesn't bug me enough to
try to do a CVS upgrade on a Windows XP machine.

How very odd. ;-)

Thanks!

This is a very, very old bug and it was fixed a long time ago but, of
course, there have been no official releases since then. Anyhow, there
should be one very soon and in the meanwhile you should get a binary
snapshot if you're using Win32.

Maybe it is a different problem?
I'm using last November's snapshot.

too many IDAT's found

I have reported in the past that when Mahogany is use
on Windows for IMAP it is unstable. Specifically,
when new messages arrive in the currently open
message folder, Mahogany often crashes. This is
really my only unhappiness with Mahogany, which
is otherwise so much better than any email client
I have tried.

Today this happened and I saw an error message I have
never seen before:
        too many IDAT's found

I will bounce to Vadim the message that causes this crash
(with Subject 'histogram bug').
Perhaps this will be of some diagnostic use ...

Cheers,
Alan Isaac

I still have never been able to reproduce this unfortunately. I'm aware of
the fact that there are some problems with status updating when a new
message arrives and is filtered away at a "wrong" moment but I've never
seen it crash.

I do see this message but it is harmless and simply means that the version
of PNG library included in Mahogany is probably too old to display this
image, it simply doesn't understand its format. But except for the fact
that the image is not shown inline, there are no ill effects from it.

VZ

On Windows 2000 and Windows XP, I see such a crash at least
once a day. I've done fairly extensive reporting on it,
so I do not know what next to do. Let me know if there is
something.

This is totally unacceptable, of course :-(

As usual, we're going to try again with the latest build. I'll announce it
here shortly.

Why not to do a release finally? We can make another release even after one
day if some (big) problems are found.
