[Bug 878] New: Dial-up network option freezes Mahogany under Windows

http://zeitlin.homeunix.com/cgi-bin/mbugs/show_bug.cgi?id=878

Summary: Dial-up network option freezes Mahogany under Windows
           Product: Mahogany
           Version: Daily Snapshot
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows 98
            Status: NEW
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P3
         Component: other
        AssignedTo: mahogany-developers <at> lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: len-l. <at> telus.net

Choosing the Dial-up network option under the Network options preferences page
causes Mahogany to freeze under Windows 98.

This is due to an undocumented wxWindows feature. Under Windows
wxDialUpManager::EnableAutoCheckOnlineStatus is called by
wxDialUpManager::Create. When wxMApp::SetupOnlineManager explicity calls it
again Mahogany locks up. I think it has something to do with wxWindows trying to
unsuspend already active threads. The simple fix I made was to omit the call to
EnableAutoCheckOnlineStatus in SetupOnlineManager when compiling Mahogany under
Windows.

This bug should probably be passed on to the wxWindows developers since it shows
inconsistences between Windows and Unix versions of wxDialupManager as well as a
problem with calling EnableAutoCheckOnlineStatus twice in a row under Windows.

OT Mail Server Setup

Somewhat off topic but since it will benefit the project, hopefully you won't grumble (too loud) ;-)

OK. at present, all my mail comes through pop.iprimus.com.au and hotmail.com

I am on dialup with a 5 hour session limit (1 session a day generally)

I do not own any domains etc and hope to achieve the following without needing one. Tell me if I am wrong.

I use 2 email packages redundantly (one set to kill mail, one not).

I wish to setup an IMAP server on my Mandrake 9.2 box behind my IPTABLES firewall.

I think I need to setup *fetchmail* to get my mail from pop.iprimus.com.au.

I have installed the *Kolab server package ( http://kolab.kde.org )* which once I get it setup will give me
*Cyrus IMAP* and *Postfix*.

I presume I will have to shoehorn some *hotmail popper* like *( http://mrpostman.sourceforge.net )* into
the fetchmail chain so I can get hotmail.

All mail will then get smtp'ed out to my isp's mail server smtp.iprimus.com.au for delivery.

My firewall is / will remain set to deny inbound mail protocols so I should not turn into an open-relay :-(

Is this reasonable or have I forgotten something.

TIA

MarkL

I'll try to look at it. But moving works, doesn't it?

I see you've already submitted a bug (876) about it, thanks.

[Bug 880] New: POP3/IMAP Folder Properties OK/Apply do not work if User name is non-blank

http://zeitlin.homeunix.com/cgi-bin/mbugs/show_bug.cgi?id=880

Summary: POP3/IMAP Folder Properties OK/Apply do not work if User
                    name is non-blank
           Product: Mahogany
           Version: 0.66
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: General mailbox&news access
        AssignedTo: mahogany-developers <at> lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: tr <at> iul.net

If you change anything in Properties for a POP3 or IMAP folder, OK and Apply do nothing if the "User name"
field of the Access tab is non-blank.

Workaround: if you clear the "User name" and select OK, you get the warning about leaving it blank; if you
choose Yes then the Properties dialog will accept the changes and close. However, when you go back in, the
"User name" field has been restored to the default setting.

Please, please, please don't send HTML-only messages here
(ultipart/alternative text/html are fine but pure text is still the best).

This would be great -- I indeed didn't touch to this file since 3 or 4
years at least. If you got the file messages.po from the provided link, it
should be 100% up to date, so you "just" have to translate all the strings
in it and send the resulting .po file to me.

 Thanks in advance!

------- Additional Comments From vadim <at> wxwindows.org 2004-02-10 19:02 -------
Thanks a lot for the bug and the fix!

I don't call EnableAutoCheckOnlineStatus() any more for the second time under
Windows and I've also tried to fix wxDialUpManager to not hang in such case. It
would be great if you could test the latest cvs (of both M and wxWindows) and
confirm that it was indeed fixed as I don't have neither Win95 nor a modem to
test this myself.

Thanks again!

M sends my mails in UTF-8, instead of the already set Iso 8859-2. The message is
fine in Mahogany, but noone else can read the Central Eurpoean characters (the
raw message shows, that the encoding is UTF-8).

 Should be fixed now, thanks.

Yes, I did, at least once, but I didn't have time to look at it yet.
Anyhow, I don't the Palm-related code at all so if you (or anybody else)
want to have a look at it and try to fix its compilation, please go ahead.

 Thanks,
