Tech Question

Steve,
Figured you'd know this, new digital service, what kinda coverage will there be, does it cover like analog tv, the power per watt is completely different with my calculations(was a physics major, sorry). I'm just curious, is there a smaller or larger footprint, and what about UHF translators, how will they convert or do they?

Long question, sorry
Jim

Services page rejects correct login

Hello,

I'm running IMail 2006.23 on a fully patched Windows 2003 server. For
the longest time I've been unable to login to the Services page in
IAdmin. But now I need to in order to troubleshoot another unrelated
problem. I see others have had this problem, but I've tried all the
suggestions I've found on the forums to no avail. Here's what I tried so
far:

-resetting an admin login on the server, then trying the same login I
just reset it to
-logging into the server as an admin then using localhost (still prompts me)
-switching to Anonymous from Windows Authentication in IIS, and vice-versa
-using the hostname or domain name format for login (e.g. hostname\username)
-no permissions errors in Filemon

My settings are in-line with
http://docs.ipswitch.com/IMail2006.23/IMailRelNotes/17288.htm

I also tried setting all the Imail registry keys and directories to full
access for 'Everyone' to test if it was a permissions issue.

Thanks in advance for anymore ideas I can try!

Rob

AOL Spam

Hi Everyone -

One of our users is sending out correspondence with a group who he "thought"
were still clients of his. One of them appears to think otherwise and is
declaring his messages as spam. I got the friendly message from AOL as
follows:

This is an email abuse report for an email message with the message-id of
RFQ4SUdHOCNWTl9DQCMtNTg2OTI2OQ <at> Portable received from IP address 8.7.193.82
on Tue, 20 Jan 2009 13:00:15 -0500

I understand that the message-ID will help you determine who the guilty
party is. However, I don't see anything like that in our log files. Am I
missing something?

Thanks!

Todd

DNS blacklist suggestions

Hello,

I’ve had to take Spamhaus out of our DNS blacklists.  I was not previously aware that they had limits on free use.  We exceed those limits.  I think their price is a bit steep, though, so I’m looking for effective DNS blacklists to put in our connection checks.

I have Spamcop and CBL now.

Any other suggestions?

In Imail we use DNS blacklists on the connection checks, then we also use Declude with Message Sniffer.

Thanks,

Katie

RE: SMTPd32.exe failing. Faulting application ntdll.dll

I had another program start faulting on the ntdll.dll due to a recent
Microsoft update. The problem cleared up after I removed the update. Don't
know if it is related...

Subject: [IMail Forum] SMTPd32.exe failing. Faulting application ntdll.dll

Hello...

Beginning late last week we're experiencing periodic SMTP failures.
Error log shows: Faulting application SMTPd32.exe, version 8.11.6.0,
faulting module ntdll.dll version 5.2.3790.1830.

Ipswitch tech support updated my system to 10.02 (I was at 9.04 when it all
began). Declude tech support also updated my Declude.

But the problems persist. Now Ipswitch is blaming Declude, and Declude it
blaming Ipswitch. Both saying pretty much the say thing "There's no way our
program could cause this. We've seen this before and always been the other
guy".

While tech support at both Ipswitch and Declude have been very good, as
always, I'm stuck with both sides giving up.

Any suggestions?

Thx,
D.

Off Topic - Dual Connections

I am using Covad Wireless for my sole access provider for my server.
Lately, there have been problems connecting (radio interference between
my satellite and the receiver) and they have stated that it's their fault.

I've been thinking about an easy way to add another connection to my
router for those very few times that my Covad connection drops. My
server is in my home and so I'm trying to connect my home network (RCN -
a cable provider in the Bay Area) to the server's router.

My RCN (home) account has 5 static IPs. But setting up the DNS records
is a bit confusing. I can't use the RCN static IP address in my MX
record obviously, but I don't have a domain like "mail.rcn.com" from RCN
- just the 5 static IPs.

Is it possible to use some random domain like "backup.mydomain.com" in
my MX record and then in my A record add "backup.mydomain.com" to point
to the RCN static IP? I would set that up with a higher priority number
so it only gets accessed when my primary MX record (which points to my
Covad IP) is down. Would that work?

Also, I have an A record that points to my Covad IP for http requests (I
host both my webserver and my mail server on the same box). Since A
records don't have priority levels, if I add another A record pointing
to my RCN IP address, will http requests coming into my domain
automatically try the first IP address listed in the record list (in
this case Covad), or will it be random? I would like www.mydomain.com
http requests to go through my Covad account if it's live, but my RCN
account if it's not.

Thanks
Kevin

SMTP Slow

Hello,

We’re having issues today with SMTP.

First the service crashed a number of times.

Now it is sloooow.

The server is close to idle – nothing hogging cpu, etc.

I’ve restarted services (SMTP + Queue Manager).

I’ve restarted the machine.

I’ve rebooted the firewall that it is connected via.

The server is not sluggish or slow to respond to keystrokes via Remote Desktop .

Transferring data using other protocols (FTP, for example) is normal, so it doesn’t seem to be a network or communication problem.

The service is slow to respond to POP clients and also when tested via telnet.

We are running Imail 10.01 on Windows Server 2003.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Katie
