Gotmail 0.8.9 Released!

Gotmail 0.8.9 Released!

April 23, 2006 - The Gotmail project, a perl script which downloads mail
from hotmail.com without user interaction, released version 0.8.9
today. This release fixes the hotmail redirect error people were getting with
version 0.8.8.

In the future, the Gotmail Project looks to add support for the new Hotmail
beta which uses AJAX technology and a refined interface to provide a better
user experience. The project seeks developers who might be interested in
submitting code to become compatible with this new service.

Another feature that is desired by the development community is integration
with other applications, such as Novell's Evolution e-mail client
(http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution). Already included in this release is
a simple script for transporting one's hotmail into evolution. What would
make for a strong feature is to develop a plugin which directly uses
gotmail to check one's hotmail account from within Evolution.

The Gotmail development community thrives off of users of the script, and ask
for people to visit http://gotmail.sf.net/ to test out the latest version,
file bug reports, and join the development process.

Itemized list of major changes:

    * applied cageek's patch to fix 0.8.8's error:
"Hotmail's page structure has changed! (redirloc)"

Packages ready for download:

Gotmail 0.8.7.1 Released!

December 11, 2005 - The Gotmail project, a perl script which downloads mail
from hotmail.com without user interaction, released version 0.8.7.1 today.

The primary feature of this release is the a rewrite of the debug output and
compliance of the script with common Unix-style applications where options
from the commandline do one thing well. Because of these changes, the
community asks for people to please test this new script heavier than normal,
and most definitely before its put into heavy use.

The Gotmail development community thrives off of users of the script, and ask
for people to visit http://gotmail.sf.net/ to test out the latest version,
file bug reports, and join the development process.

Itemized list of major changes:

    * Makefile simplified

    * Several bugs squished from the bug tracker

    * Output of usage info is simplified

    * Show sender and subject of deleted spam RFE implemented

    * Passwords are no longer included in debug files

    * System for debug output is completely redone to be quieter and have

Gotmail 0.8.6 Released!

August 23, 2005 - The Gotmail project, a perl script which downloads mail from
hotmail.com without user interaction, released version 0.8.6 today. This
version adds support for running the script on the various Windows platforms.
Additionally, thanks to new developer, Jos De Laender, Gotmail now has support
for multiple languages. There are many new commandline options as well as
several improvements with the packaging for the project. This means that it is
simpler for distribution packagers to build Gotmail easily.

The coming months will see new additions to Gotmail and a redo on the system's
debugging output. Also, with the changes on the script's localization,
user's should expect to see further language support additions.

The Gotmail development community thrives off of users of the script, and ask
for people to visit http://gotmail.sf.net/ to test out the latest version,
file bug reports, and join the development process.

Itemized list of major changes:

    * Multi-language support detection

    * VERSION file sets version in one place.

    * Makefile now does 'make dist' to make all packages like tarball, zip,
    rpm, src rpm, etc.

    * Set gotmail to run silent by default to be a good unix citizen. If
there is an error then a non-zero status is returned. The output can
be turned on again with the --debug setting and other verbosity
    controls.

New Mailing List - gotmail-announce

Hello all,

I have added a new mailng list, gotmail-announce. It is low volume and
is used only to announce new releases of Gotmail. Please hop on
http://sf.net/projects/gotmail to add yourself to that list if you are
primarily interested in finding out about new releases when they happen.
This is really good for packagers and others who add gotmail to the
various floss distros.

NOTE: Also, anyone on nongnu should hop over to sf.net and change over
their list membership as the nongnu site is no longer the official site
for Gotmail.

Thanks,

Jon

Gotmail 0.8.4 Released

June 18, 2005 UTC — Release 0.8.4 of Gotmail (http://gotmail.sf.net/) is
now available for download on-line. The focus of this release was to get
as many patches merged and bugs closed from the sourceforge.net project
tracker as possible. While last release fixed the hotmail.com page
structure change, this release focused on optional features. Also, this
release adds support for more than just hotmail.com and msn.com, and now
allows use from other supported domains like: charter.com, compaq.net,
hotmail.co.jp, hotmail.co.uk, hotmail.de, hotmail.fr, hotmail.it,
messengeruser.com, passport.com, and webtv.net.

One last addition is a Makefile to the package which allows for easy
install and uninstall of Gotmail and documentation.

Also, Gotmail is looking for more developers to help improve and
maintain the project. Please visit http://gotmail.sf.net/ and join the
gotmail-devel <at> lists.sourceforge.net mailing list to learn more.

Here is a sample of the NEWS file:

Gotmail

    * Added expansion of bash $HOME for the configure file.
    * Merged patch remove-header.patch to add commandline option
      for removing header.
    * Merged patch to add procmail-option to both the conf and from commandline.
    * Patched patch which adds exclude-folders option for commandline and for
the conf. file. Patched fix for moving mail around in the mailboxes.
    * Changed the query string from "move" to the new "MoveTo".
    * Added support for the various domains that are used for hotmail.com
      accounts: charter.com, compaq.net, hotmail.co.jp, hotmail.co.uk,

New Mailing List

Hello gotmail list,

I've been taking care of merging patches, fixing bugs, and some general
maintenance to get gotmail up-to-date.

Anyhow, I'd like to continue centralizing development on the
sourceforge.net project page, and move to close this list and page.

If you are interested in continuing discussions on this project, please
join the new primary mailing list:

http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/gotmail-devel

Also, I've been keeping the chat channel #gotmail open on
irc.freenode.net for interested parties.

I'm getting ready to release 0.8.4 of gotmail. I released 0.8.3 last
week, and I'm following up with this new release with most of the
patches from the patch tracker merged in addition to some of my own
commits.

See you all on the flip side: gotmail-devel <at> lists.sourceforge.net

Re: Gotmail-list Digest, Vol 18, Issue 2

Uhhh.... Yes, open to read. Not necessarily open to post to. Joining the
list was no hard work. And if it's members only then a member can be
kicked out if they SPAM.

"But I don't _like_ SPAM..."

I get this as a digest. The suggestion to SPAM filter would knock out my
one and only gotmail message of the day. Yeah, I could white-list it...
but this wouldn't keep it from being full of SPAM.

And SPAM filters are not the very best way to handle some stuff. The cost
of the SPAM is still upon the receiver... doubly so as you're paying both
for the band-width the suckers use as well as the cost of maintaining the
SPAM filter SW.

Not that there is a really good solution... the law doesn't allow us to
__kill all the SPAMers__!!

thnx,
mds

spam/phishing on gotmail list

Could the list owner please make this list subscriber-post-only? The
amount of spam/phishing sent through this list is getting annoying.
