With 6.0.0 I am able to use "auth password" in the connection spec 
to inhibit fetchmail to issue the CAPA command.
I do not know if it works with 5.9.0 though.

I tried to post a patch for this late September, but the moderator never approved :(

So the patch is attached (valid against 6.0.0 and 6.10). 
The issue is that the capability LOGINDISABLE tells fetchmail to not attempt
login...
My patch adds an option nologindisable which tells fetchmail to ignore
that capability for the server.

I also had this problem and worked around it with a cron entry:

0,30  *  * *  *    fetchmail -q ; killall fetchmail ; fetchmail -d 120

So at the 0 and 30 minutes of every hour I "restart" fetchmail.
I do this in my users cron jobst so I do not risk taking down other peoples
fetcmail processes.

[fetchmail] Is there a problem with this list?

I know this will sound strange, but my inbox hasn't seen a single piece of 
mail fromn this list in months.  A couple of moths ago, I figured I'd 
accidently unsubscribed myself and went thru the subscribe process.  I did 
get an email back saying I was already subscribed.  Still, no mail from the 
list.  Yesterday, I tried a new trick.  I tried to unsubscribe.  24 hours 
later, the confirmation request got here.  The object was not to unsubscribe, 
but to see if the list was alive, so I didn't confirm..

As a test, I had my newsreader haul down the gmane feed of this list and saw 
only a couple of entries about a week old...until now when I saw a current 
post on the newsreader.  But still no email from the list!!!!!!

Does anyone have a clue why I am not getting any email from the list????????
