remote exmh from Mandriva 2010.0 X session

As usual I started exmh on a remote host via ssh. This was on a
freshly installed Mandriva 2010.0 system. I got the error:

BgRegister X server insecure (must use xauth-style authorization)

'xhost' showed that localhost was allowed insecure access to the X
server. The source of this was in /etc/X11/xinit.d/msec which
contains this on my system

  /usr/bin/xhost + localhost

I changed the "+" to a "-" and the problem went away. But, an hour
later the "-" changed back to a "+".

Does anyone know how to stop the reverting of the xhost command
option in that file?

Thanks....

I might have figured it out. ALLOW_X_CONNECTIONS in
/etc/security/msec/{level.secure|level.standard|security.conf}
can be set to {yes|no|local}. For the standard security level
this is set to "local". I changed it to "no" using Mandriva's
system admin GUI (mcc) in the Security section.

I hope it works permanently and doesn't break anything else.

Hello Kevin,

This error message remins me somehow what we get when tk is
compiled without option TK_NO_SECURITY on the Linux/Unix box,
but this is just a guess ...

Anyway it's maybe documented in the FAQ ( see Help -> FAQ )
	Best regards,

Re: remote exmh from Mandriva 2010.0 X session

Hello Kevin,

Much faster than exmh through ssh is using NX. After switching
from pure ssh to nx over ssh, I have now a very rapide UI.
And at the same time, all xhost troubles would be solved.

Far from your question, but I was so happy after that switch...

I've used NX too. But, I only use it for applications which require
it, and then only when required. I like a lot about it. But, it
reduces the amount of screen useful to me.

It looks like the reconfiguration of msec on my system to disallow
unauthenticated X sessions, even local ones, was enough to solve the
problem.

Thanks Anne!

Went to 64bit/Fc11, EXMH no longer spellchecking.

Well, the Subject line says it all, I have gone from 32bit/Fedora6
to a 64bit/Fedora11, and I have most things working.

One of the things that ISNT working, and one that I dont understand,
os that SPELL CHECKING in EXMH has stopped working. As far as I can
tell, all of EXMH was out on /usr/local, which means the new OS is
mounting exactly what I saw under Fc6, and I see spell, ispell and
aspell all in /usr/bin, so that hasnt changed. And spell checking
is turned on in the EXMH Preferences.

Is there some way to get EXMH to tell me what its doing, and why
its not doing spell checking,- I really need spell checking...

Hi Reg,

I'm running exmh 2.7.2 01/07/2005 on Fedora12 install. All the
specific exmh stuff goes under /usr/local/exmh/{lib,bin}. BTW,
french spellchecking is working fine for me !! Here's my setup
and which RPMs that are required IMHO :

<satp20832.wifi>[emile]<112>uname -a
Linux satp20832.wifi 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Sat Nov 7 21:41:45 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
<satp20832.wifi>[emile]<113>grep -i spell .exmh/exmh-defaults
*seditSpell:	spell
*spellCmd:	exmh-async xterm -e ispell

How to pull all of EXMH from the CVS repository?

The EXMH web page on sourceforge gives a couple of CVS commands to
pull the code, but there is the question of what is the module name
to get the entire code?

They show

    cvs -d:pserver:anonymous <at> exmh.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/exmh login
followed by
    cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous <at> exmh.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/exmh co -P
<modulename>

I tried without the -P <modulename>, which I thought was the way to checkout
the entire code, but that returns an error.

The real question here is that I ASSUME that there is some new code in the
CVS repository beyond what was released in 2.7.2, and I would like to look
at it.

Browsing/retreiving exmh CVS repository...

Hi again,

Here's some help for Reg to download the 2.7.2 version.
First of all execute following command :

   cvs -d:pserver:anonymous <at> exmh.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/exmh login

simply type RETURN, then do :

   cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous <at> exmh.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/exmh co -P exmh

You'll get a local directory called "exmh" as a result.
	With best regards,

-Émile
