Setting up -- gmail account (i've done it before for an aol email but have now got thoroughly confused)!!!

About a year ago i set up cone for an aol.com account and now don't
seem to be able to set up one up for gmail.

when i've entered in the details for setup and press enter on login i
get a timeout. It would seem that i've missed the point on the SSL?

One should enter in the server imap.gmail.com:993 (for SSL) and for
smtp smtp.gmail.com:465

Sorry to appear dim but i'd be grateful if someone could put me right.

thanks

james

Works for me. For incomingm ail, just imap.gmail.com for the server field,
and enable "Use encrypted connection". That's it. Should take a second or
two to log in.

Sam

I much appreciate your reply.

I think i've missed the point somewhere as i'm not sure where the smtp
goes. From the Main menu (or Add from the bottom menu) 0ne uses New
account for setting up the imap. Then Setup from main menu for the
smtp.

This is the response
"Unable to initialize an encrypted connection because root authority
certificates are not installed.

If you would like to proceed without verifying the the server's encryption
certificate, append "/novalidate-cert" to the server's name and try again.

Press SPACE to continue."

I can't remember what i did about a year ago for an aol imap account.

thanks

You probably had, as the error message states, simply installed your root
certificate authority certs.
