Re: [ydl-gen] yum update itself

Dear bbux:

Each version of YDL comprises a version of yum which "fits" that version of YDL
best. Within YDL 3, you could update yum by doing:

#yum update yum

which would update yum appropriate to that version of YDL 3.

However updating yum as you've proposed would not match the version of
YDL you are using which could cause you a variety of problems which are best
avoided.

Good Luck ...

Oh yep, I know... but it's precisely to change this version (3.0) of ydl
that I need to update yum

in reference to this page :
http://www.shiner.info/?manuals/ANS-from-3-to-4.html

where the author (stian oksavik) says that updating yum is the first
thing to do

I've tried to contact stian oksavik, at serveral emails, but in vain.

bon dimanche !

Re: [ydl-gen] boot-game-os not working on ps3

Found the answer in the discussion board through google.
Some update messed up the content of boot-game-os.
Replacing ps3flash with sdb solves the issue.

BTW, is it possible to upgrade to 5.0.2 for ps3 using
the software update menu? Or I have to do that through
a CD upgrade?

Re: [ydl-gen] yum update itself

Bonjour bbux:

If you read the link you provided to me carefully there are two
problems with it:

1. It is not an official recommendation from TSS, which means the
risk for destroying or messing up your system irrevocably is entirely
yours. The document states this clearly.

2. YDL 4.1 is no longer supported by TSS and is not available via
YDL.net. The method listed appears to require access to a YDL.net
account.

Keep in mind, bbux, that just because an unofficial recommendation is
posted on the net does not mean that it will function.

There is another problem: between YDL 3 and YDL 4 there was a leap of
changes and improvements such that they are completely different
releases. This is equivalent to stating that they are different
aquifers or sources of water. One higher, broader and further up the
mountain and refreshing; the other -- older (your version) though
decent and acceptable is not competitive. I assume it is not
competitive as you appear to want to abandon it. No one thinks of
mixing such different sources of anything.

If your intention is to move up to YDL 4.0 or even YDL 4.1 or
higher, there is a simple (free) way to do this without using the
link you sent me. The method I recommend is the official process
which TSS officially allows.

Re: [ydl-gen] boot-game-os not working on ps3

Hi chengx:

Within YDL 5 you should be able to do:

Applications --> System Tools --> Software Updater

Good Luck...

I know the linked url is not an official one, but I can't find anymore
the original ydl's support for upgrading from 3 to 4

so it's why !

I'm going to read attentivement all your recommendations, and try to
follow your "mode d'emploi"

merci beaucoup !

Re: [ydl-gen] yum update itself

Hi Bbux:

Regarding ADSL here is an official document you can utilize. Although the
instructions apply to YDL 2; YDL 3 is not that different as far as applying
these directions. Here is that link:

http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/support/solutions/ydl_general/adsl.shtml

If you take the time to review the directions I posted which rely upon the
official recommendations posted on the TSS website, there should be no
difficulties.

Recall that ADSL is equivalent to DSL speeds; you should still be able to have
significant download speeds at either rate. Mon ami, anything is better than
dial-up speed (57,600 Kb/s)!

If following the instructions to utilize ADSL within YDL is a bit advanced for
you, you can do the download of the .iso and burn the discs from within OS X or
OS Classic. The instructions to do so were included on the official links I
provided to the TSS website earlier.

Take your time, go through the instructions slowly and carefully.

I wish my French was better, but on my end I'm deciphering your French into
Latin and Spanish to intuit your meaning. Even so, as long as the information
becomes clearer and useful to you ... that's what is important, in the end.

Take your time, review the information well and you should be on your way.
If you believe, that a French YDL community would be more useful I'll request
of TSS if such a reference is available to assist you. Otherwise, if you get

[ydl-gen] cellsdk2.1

Has anyone been able to get the cellsdk2.1 working with any version of ydl?
I have version 5.0 installed and am unable to install the newer sdk. I think
it is because glibc 2.5 is required.

Does ydl 5.0.2 include glibc2.5? Has anyone tried putting the 2.1 sdk on it?

Steve

At TSS, we have v2.1 in progress on IBM QS20s, but we will not officially
support v2.1 until the release of YDL v6.0 this fall. If/when we get v2.1
against YDL v5.0.2, we will post this.

[ydl-gen] what are md5sums for 4.1?

The MD5SUM file available on the ftp mirrors is only
for version 5. How/Where do I get the MD5SUMs for
version 4.1 iso's?

BTW: I have a working 4.0/4.01 installation on a
lombard/bronze Powerbook G3. Everything works except
for
recovery from suspend. i.e., when I close the lid or
the
battery power runs down --the only recovery is to
press
the reset button on the back and hard boot. Does
anyone
have first hand experience with 4.1 on a 400mhz
lombard?
Does everything work?
