[ydl-gen] getting Linksys EG1032 ethernet card to work with ydl 4.1 on powermac g4

Hi,

I've been halliply running YDL 4.1 on an old powermac g4 for alost a year now.  Recently the 10/100 ethernet PCI card I was using died and I bought a Linksys EG 1032 10/100/1000 PCI ethernet card to replace it.

The card is not recognized by YDL 4.1, and the card doesn't come up as an option in "add new adapter"  portion of the network control box (system-config-network -> Hardware -> New -> Ethernet ->  Adapter ).  Is there an RPM I can install which will tell YDL about this new device?   I couldn't find a linux diver on Linksys's site.

regards,

Nathan

The problem is that this has to do with Macromedia, and not anyone else
(Flash is their code). So, it's whenever Macromedia decides that Linux
on the PS3 is a big enough platform to support.

That's why you should never rely on non-open-source tools :)

Sorry for taking so long, I just got my PS3 today and I have been having
too much fun with it. B-)

There is much tweaking and testing yet to do, but I have a basic mplayer
install that works for YDL 5.0 on PS3. This is the second thing I did
on YDL when I got my PS3 earlier today. The first thing is
unimportant for getting mplayer to work. So this should work on a
fresh, standard YDL install.

First of all you need the SVN version of the mplayer source code, the
current release (1.0rc1) has issues, including a known security
problem and sound problems. Apparently 1.0rc2 is due out soon, that
might be worth a shot.

svn checkout svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/trunk mplayer
cd mplayer
./configure --enable-gui --enable-largefiles --enable-menu \
--enable-dynamic-plugins && make && sudo make install

Then follow the mplayer instructions for installing fonts, skins, and
binary codecs. You will need the PPC version of the codecs collection,
but it doesn't have anywhere near the number of codecs as the x86
version. On the other hand, most of the missing codecs are for obscure
formats.

I should be working on getting mplayer, vlc, xine, etc to work as well
as possible on the PS3 in the near future.

[ydl-gen] Programming the PS3 Introduction

For those interested, I've started a series of articles on IBM
DeveloperWorks about programming the PS3's Cell BE Processor using YDL.
You can see the first installment here:

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/power/library/pa-linuxps3-1/

The next three or four (depending on how my editor breaks them up) will
focus on SPU programming, with another one following about scientific
programming on the PS3.

[ydl-gen] Video Issue on PS3

I installed YDL 5.0 on my PS3 today while it was hooked up to a 32"
Sharp Aquos LCD TV. When I moved it to my 52" Toshiba DLP, I don't see
any of the text from kboot, or the rest of the boot process. The system
will boot and present the GDM login screen, but there is a green
background for everything. The colors are all messed up, and it almost
looks like they're inverted. Oddly, when I'm using GAIM and send or
receive a message, my TV appears to go through a resolution change where
the colors are correct for a brief moment, then the screen goes back to
it's previous state. The TV is connected via HDMI and supports up to
1080i, so I'm not sure what's going wrong. Anyone else seen this
behavior?

Thanks,
Brandon

That sounds like a YUV versus RGB problem. Try switching the video
mode between 4 and 36. From the HOWTO -

"The PS3 uses a set number of video modes, denoted by number rather than
by resolution:

	0:auto mode
	YUV
	60Hz 1:480i 2:480p 3:720p 4:1080i 5:1080p
	50Hz 6:576i 7:576p 8:720p 9:1080i 10:1080p
	RGB
	vesa 11:WXGA 12:SXGA 13WUXGA
	60Hz 33:480i 34:480p 35:720p 36:1080i 37:1080p
	50Hz 38:576i 39:576p 40:720p 41:1080i 42:1080p"

Note that the table is split into two sections, YUV and RGB. Your DLP
monitor might be fussy about which one it gets, and you probably had
the other one used for your LCD monitor.
